In answering to Mary W.'s question: Sorry for the outburst. It's just that I hate when people say that it is not healthy when you DON'T eat meat and it is not natrual NOT to eat meat. There are religions that are vegetarians and they are healthy. The youtube video started the nagging idea that it isn't very good to eat meat and then I went to PETA's website which furthered my suspicion. Then my dad and I became vegetarians. When we started, people wanted to put us in an insane asylum! But we became healthier and lost a few pounds. ( I don't need pounds.)

My personal opinion: it sort of goes against human nature not to eat meat. Humans were given dominance over animals, and as long as we don't abuse them or that privilege, we have every right to eat them. Humans have souls and think; animals do not have souls and act on instinct. It's that simple.

PETA? Don't get me started on PETA, or I will begin ramblingandramblingandrambling.

Trixy, Adina very clearly said, and I quoth, "MEAT IS EVIL!!!" and I unquoth. She did not say, digression, "THE MEAT INDUSTRY IS EVIL!" ebd digression. I remember quite clearly. See first page; she said meat, not meat industry.

Meat is a part of American lifestyle.

Mary W:

Nothing is "that simple".  How do you know animals don't have souls? How do you know humans have souls? What IS a soul? It is my belief that humans have no "right" to use animals in any way. We are not a "higher life form" than they are. Humans evolved from animals. We ARE animals. Only our BRAINS evolved to be higher than theirs, not ourselves, humans, personally.  I also think that animals do act not only on instinct.  Excerpt from Odyssey magazine:
"Washoe had already had two unsuccessful pregnancies when she learned that a caregiver's baby had died.  The chimpanzee looked downward, and signed 'CRY' while touching the woman's cheek.  Later that day, Washoe wouldn't let her caregiver go home without further consolation, signing 'PLEASE PERSON HUG.'"
Washoe is a chimpanzee that was taught to use ASL.  Koko is a gorilla that also learned to use ASL.  Also from Odyssey mag:
". . . When a trainer caught her eating a crayon, Koko signed 'LIP' and pretended to be applying lipstick!  Koko also likes to joke using ASL, calling herself an 'ELEPHANT' after pointing to a long tube held in front of her like that animal's trunk. . . . She mourned the death of her kitten, named All Ball, by repeatedly signing 'SAD.'"
I do not think Washoe's and Koko's reactions were instinctive.
About the fact that not eating meat is unnatural: so it is.  In nature, humans would eat meat.  They would not, however, raise animals on hormones and other chemicals and then slaughter them.  (Now THAT is unnatural.)  They would eat only what they needed, which means very little meat.  They would NOT drink milk at all, excepting their own mother's milk.  When you think about it, it's very, very, odd that we drink cow's milk: humans, and full-grown human adults, too, drink cow's milk, which is meant for a calf to drink so he/she can develop.  Like a fully-grown adult cow milking a human for a baby's milk!  Pretty stupid. :)

Meat is not ANIMALS!!!! Meat is DEAD ANIMALS THAT PEOPLE EAT!!! I also disagree about the human have souls and animals don't. I am not a big believer in the whole soul thing. And the whole dominance thing, no offense but humens were not born onto this earth first, they followed( yeah I'm not a big believer in Adam and Eve either.)  Then they were like "hey I have opposable thumbs! YAY! That means that I have the right to do anything I want and have the whole   more important thing!" People used to think that African Americans and Jews did  not have "souls" either! You could survive perfectly well without having to kill. Isn't killing against the law??? I'm not an animal rights activist though and I would never pour anything on your lovely fur coat.

Humans are like weasels.  They kill more then they nead.  Do you really nead dead animals to survive?  I don't.  And, Mary W.: How are vegetarians/vegans less healthy then dead-animal-eaters?  And don't say because we don't eat meat.  Say what nutrition stuff we don't get enouph of that comes from meat.

It is true that killing is against the law; however, that law applies to humans, killing one equal to oneself. Why were animals put on Earth? What purpose do they serve? The way I see it, we humans, as long as we respect them as living, breathing beings, have the right, as a more intellectually advanced life form, to use them according to our needs.

I personally believe in the Bible, and that God gave humans dominance over animals- He breathed the breath of life, the souls, into humans, but not animals- and that He gave us the right to use them for our needs as long as we respected them as His creation. However, you probably will not agree with this argument if you do not agree with my beliefs.

Trixy, your stories about Washoe and Koko certainly entail some presence of emotion in the primates, but we have to keep in mind that emotions are felt on different levels. Humans, for instance, would not merely say, "Cry," or, "Sad." Therefore, although I do not dispute that the apes must have been feeling some emotion, it is not as profound as that which a human would have felt.

I also do not believe in evolution, and there were studies done a few years ago that ascertained that every human DNA can be traced back to the same source.

. . . Sorry.  I must hyperventilate for a bit.

*three hours later*
Okay.  You know what?  I actually left for three hours.  No kiddin'.  Then I wrote an extremely long entry on my beliefs.  I have just now deleted it.  It was much too heated and offensive and, er, long.  Technically, there is no way we can agree without one of us giving up our beliefs, and that is not going to happen.  So let's be cool, okay?  No more debates.  They go in circles, anyway.  Smiley-- :)  Friends?  :)

What purpose do animals serve!!! First ask yourself the question what purpose humans serve!!!... NONE, other then to pollute the air with factories!!! I am really sorry if it is against your beliefs to think that and I did not want to offend you.

Hey, did anyone realize that there are THREE 'unite' threads on DtE? It's not suspicious or anything... it's just kind of... funny! And here we are, FIGHTING on one of the 'unified' threads. Ironic...

Heehee, Mary - three elipses! :)

It's not suspicious? *is shocked* Although I was meaning to ask you, Lena... (ellipse!) is it suspicious behaviour that my eye doctor told me to wear disposable sunglasses after dialating my pupils? He's a really good, smart guy... but like I would march around NJ wearing disposable sunglasses... although they might be helpful to hide my face when policemen come looking for me...

Do I ever stop joking about these things? Am I EVER serious?

Meadow, one word: protein. Very healthy little thing... comes from meat.

**Ellipse count: five. ;)

You get protein from beans and vegetables ( like broccoli), too. Plus I eat cheese and eggs because I'm not a vegen.  And soy. Did you know soybeans contain MORE protien then meat?

Protien also comes from things that I love:  I eat beans (A LOT, I fart all day), I LOVE brocoli.  I eat cheese.  And I also drink soymilk.  Vegearians get enouph protien.  And vegans from soymilk, and brocoli, and beans.  Also, if you have a lot of meat then you get TO MUCH protien.  My dad, aunt Steph (She not here anymore, she's at home in chicago.), B.K. and Choi ate too much meat.  At a retaurant that I am not alloud to go in.  So they had "An overdose of protien" aunt Steph said.  And she's a food junky.  She loves food.  Here is a question that I asked Autumn: Protien comes from soymilk, beans, chease, and brocoli.  Do we get enouph protien?  "Yes"  thats what she specificaly said.

I can't say that every vegatarian gets enouph protien.  You can't say that every vegetarian doesn't get enouph protien.  So some vegetarians get enouph protien.  And some don't.  I know that I get enouph protien.  You arn't a vegetarian so yu don't know exactly what they eat.  You are just one person.  YOu don't know what every endivisual person eats.  YOu don't know that every vegetarian or vegan doesn't get enouph protien.  But you have yuor opinion.  And I have mine.  We have rights to think what we think.
