Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Depressing Arts
Depressing Arts
What specific creation in the category of the arts makes you sad? (I know, this makes no sense, just keep reading.)
Including: Books, visual art, digital art (including movies, TV shows, etc.), music, drama (including plays, musicals, operas, etc.), and dance.
Some songs and books really touch me; make me happy, sad, scared, etc.
'It's Quiet Uptown' from Hamilton makes me pretty sad.
This is a random, weird, and personal, so don't feel obliged to answer. Anywhoo, bye!

The last book of the Artemis Fowl series makes me sad. The ending just... gah. I wont spoil it for anyone though.
A movie that makes me sad is Free Willy. I don't even know why, but every time I watch it I cry. Same with the last NIght At The Museum movie. And the Newest Star Wars movie. They just make me cry.
And for songs that make me sad? that's a rather long list, but I'll shorten it to a few.
What A Catch, Donnie by Fall Out Boy
Hey There Delilah by The Plain White T's
Disenchanted by My Chemical Romance
Dream by Imagine Dragons
Nothing Left To Say/Rocks by Imagine Dragons (this one doesn't exactly make me sad... more like nostalgic? wistful? those are better words to describe how I feel when I listen to this song.)
Early Sunsets Over Monroeville by My Chemical Romance (brING On THE TEARs)
Fake Your Death by My Chemical Romance (MCR GIVES ME A LOT OF FEELS OKAY?)
Truce by Twenty One Pilots
Goner by Twenty One Pilots
Fix You by Coldplay
Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day
The Twenty One Pilots Cancer cover
Song For Ten (i dont remember who it's by)
That ended up being more than a few songs. Oops.
and one more thing that makes me sad is whenever I see Percy Jackson fanart with song lyrics edited onto it. Idk.
Okay... that's pretty much it for media that makes me sad. This is a really interesting topic, Moonlight! Cool idea for a thread. :)

It's Quiet Uptown really gets to me, out of all of Hamilton.
So does the song Dust in the Wind by Kansas.
AND TEARS IN HEAVEN KILLS ME.
LOOK IT UP.
AAAGH

I find Stay Alive reprise sadder than It's Quiet Uptown. There's more emotions in it, and screaming. I saw a video of it and Philip was in so much pain and he was twitching and jerking about and then Eliza lets out this horrible scream at the end and-
Why Phillip? Why?

Here Comes a Thought and It's Over Isn't it from SU made me cry.
Hamilton has made me cry many times. (I'll never forget the second time I listened to the soundtrack straight through, when I truly grasped the musical...from Hamilton's monologue forward, I was crying on the floor in the pitch black darkness of my closet with my headphones on).
Burn was very emotional the first many times I listened to it....then I had heard it so many times, it lost its touch, and although it was still beautiful, it didn't spark much emotion in me.
Then I relived the Burn when I watched a Hamilton storyboard animatic with Burn....there are many animatic storyboards for Burn, but in my opinion the only one good one is that one, by Xena Achilleos. Watch it somewhere quiet, when your mind is clear, and I guarantee it will make you more emotional than however you usually are with it, if not cry.
I'll listen to it right now.
YES it still hurts. I didn't cry, but my eyes got wet, and I felt my heart crack at various times throughout the song. It really is a beautiful animatic.
As for books, they make me very emotional, and sometimes my eyes feel like they're about to cry or they get watery, but I haven't actually cried. Two exceptions:
-Tears of **************SPOILERS joy**********************SPOILERS ENDwhen I read the epilogue to Winter, in Stars Above.
-Tears of sorrow AND joy in The One (book 3 of Selection series)...I just read it yesterday.

Books and movies often make me feel very deeply, whether its sadness or fear or comfort or cheer. It's hard to explain, really... Even some books that aren't meant to be sad have made my cry. For example: Anne of Green Gables (those of you who've read it can probably guess what part) Little Women (again, you know where), To Kill a Mockingbird. And yes, I almost started tearing up in Romeo and Juliet, which was really awkward since we were reading it in class... Yeah... Pretty much any book in which a charrie dies will bring tears to my eyes. Partings are heartbreaking, too. And sometimes, I don't exactly cry, but my eyes mist over, and I get this horrible pain inside, like my heart's about to split... I don't know. This is how you know you're an antisocial bookworm, when you'er found all alone, crying over a book. Does anyone else here get this?

Oh and also, "Since I've seen you" will unfailingly make me cry... "It's been a long day since I've seen you my friend... But I'll tell you all about it when I see you again" They played it as the last song at promotion from middle school, and now, whenever I hear it, I think of that, and all the friends and experiences I had there that I will never have again... I don't know.
And... now I'm tearing up. *shakes head* What have I done?

the boy in the striped pajamas made me cry sooo hard. it was about the holocaust and i caution everyone. DONT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE A HEART! it was just so sad... the holocaust in general was sad and this movie was so sad! so yah, add the the holocaust to the list of terrible depressing tragedies that should never have happened.

MIRAX, YOU KINDRED SPIRIT! West Side Story always gets me sobbing. Also The Book Thief and...Tuck Everlasting. I watched the movie with a friend who burst into tears at the end. So sad!

Former CBer here; not revealing my former name.
Anyway - lots and lots of poems make me sad, but most of them deal with mature content. In terms of songs: basically the entire new album by Bastille? Hah. Aaaand... The Book Thief, all of Megan Abbott's books, Sharp Objects, and many more.
