Future jobs!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Future jobs!

Future jobs!

Or the age old question of: "What do you want to do with your life?" As asked by peers, parents, principals and professers. (And now yours truely.)

Personally, l'd like to join the Air Force or Army (may not be able to because of bad eyesight, but hey, never know if you don't try)

If not, then second choice would be something with films. Because producing/making films is awesome and l'd love to be a part of that.

Third, athlete/backcountry guide/explorer. l'd love to do this, but......l'm not actually too eager about it's going to happen.

Annnnd lastly....if all else fails, writer. l don't really want to do it as a job, despite being fairly good at it, l don't feel like l'd be able to make a living off of it, or stick with it for all of my adult life.

So--what is your dream job? What's your more-realistic-still-dream-job? :)

Me too!! I love working with animals. I don't have much experience yet, but I am trying to get into a volunteer program at the zoo nearby. Only the first 60 people get in, and I won't know whether I get in until the end of September. I want to get in SO BAD!!!

It's said among the poet world that there are two people who can make their living off of writing poetry. Mary Oliver and Billy Collins. We-ell, that's what I want to be. A modern free-verse poet who is relatively popular and has lots of books in the publishing world. Oh, and I want to be on Poem-A-Day (that is what I get every day instead of Merriam Webster's word of the day).

My dream job is a Marine Biologist. Or an artist. Or a preschool teacher. I really can't decide, and I think they are all pretty realistic! I'm good a science, I love art, and I love teaching little kids!

I get asked this all the time!

I would really want to be the editor of a fashion magazine or a kids magazine ( like Cricket or American Girl!)

If not, than maybe a lawyer ( this is probably the most realistic of my dream jobs)

Third choice? I would want to be a set designer for Broadways   *sighs dreamily*

I definitely agree with you, Shadow. My last choice would probably be a writer.

I will most likely be a teacher, just like (almost )everyone else in my family! Yay!

I once had dreams to be an artist or writer, but have discovered my not-so-great talent for procrastination. It seems like I can only finish something if it's something with no deadlines, so if it's for other people, it usually doesn't get done. Procrastination must be my fatal flaw! Things might change by the time I'm older though, you never know.

I know, I love, love, love it! I go every Friday from nine to noon "to be taught" which is just a way of saying, to volunteer. But we get three types of animals; oh, I guess, four types. Mostly we get baby  possums, we get a ton of birds (all sorts! From the most adorable baby screech owls to Hawks to crows to mockingbirds) and a lot of baby squirrels! Occasionally, we will get some baby rabbits, but those ones usually die. I help feed the baby squirrels (and, let me tell you, it is so cute when the hold the little rubber piece in the mouths and suckle in it), clean out cages, feed most of the animals, and uh. I um, have also become the duck catcher. Yeah. The ducks outside are "free range" in a giant cage that leads into a little pond. Whenever there is a hurt duck, I am assigned to catch it. Lol! This center is not very big, nor government owned. The boss of it, a somewhat elderly lady, works three jobs to keep it running. She's wonderful. It's a two room center. The cages are lined up all around the walls; and you have to rummage through stuff to find what you're looking for, but I love it. It's a very friendly and easygoing, but busy, atmosphere. Usually, there is only me and another volunteer working. Which means that we are super busy! Thanks for your interest! I really appreciate it! If you have any more questions, I will be reading the "animals" there'd you made, micearenice!

Hey admins, what kind of degree do you have? How did you get hired? What kind of hours do you have?

I'm just curious. Did you start college wanting to be something else?

I have a degree from a small liberal arts college. My major was geography, but I took a well-rounded course of literature, languages, sciences, and education. I didn't have a specific career in mind when I started. I come from a long line of librarians, my mother always read to my sisters and me at bedtime, and we were within walking distance of a library. So I've loved children's literature from an early age. I still have some of the children's books that have been handed down in my family from generation to generation.

A lady at my church worked for the publisher and knew there was  need for more staff in the editorial department at that time. So I sent in my resume, had an interview, and was hired, first as an editorial assistant. For current Admins: All three of us have many other responsibilities besides Chatterbox. Two of us are full-time employees (regular business hours). The third works about 40 hours including off and on Chatterbox time in the evenings and on weekends and holidays. No one is hired just to be a Cricket Admin.
