~ANIMAL THREAD~

Ahh, I've been wanting to make this thread for a while--since before Chinchilla's pet thread, actually. I don't know why I haven't made it yet...XD

This thread isn't your average pet thread; instead of posting about our pets, (which you can totally do here, I don't mind), we'll share and compare our knowledge of our pets!

Wait, I just confuzzled myself.

Here's what I meant:

Tips, stories, interesting information, as long as it has to do with animals, it's welcome here!

So...let the posting begin!

I don't have any chickens or owls (though I did want a duck when I was younger), but I do have a dog! He's a 3 year old Catahoula leopard hound who we got at a shelter last year. If you don't know what a Catahoula is, look them up, they're adorable! Anyways...

*flashback*

My older dog, Talley, had died in 2014, so we didn't have a dog for a year. One day my parents decide that they want to go to the shelter and check it out to see if there's anyone they wanted. Now, my mom was looking for a calm, sweet dog, like Talley (who was a corgi), because we don't have a big backyard or lots of time to get away. So she's looking for a lab or a greyhound or such, when all of a sudden we hear this barking from another room.

My dad and I go investigate it, and at the very end of the room there's this kennel that has these enormously loud barks coming from it. Seriously, imagine if you had a megaphone held over a dog's mouth. And in this kennel, there's this huge dog, jaws open, backed up against the wire, barking his head off.

That was the dog my dad wanted.

It was a huge change to go from a small, calm corgi to this giant, crazy speed demon! But it wasn't so bad, because he's actually very nice and rolled over to let us pat his belly the first time we took him home. What was bad, though, was the training.

If you've never had a hound before, let me tell you, they're not easy to train, and Dex was no exception. He wouldn't listen to any of our commands or sit or stay or come or anything! SO we took him to this obedience class, and that's where we got the squirt bottle. It's just a little mister, but if you fill it with water it makes a dog get away really fast if he's trying to bite or jump on someone. So I suggest using one for any owner of a big dog.

Side note: He's so weird! He'll run up the stairs to my room, poke his nose in, then sprint back downstairs as fast as possible!

Top!

Guess what? I just put another batch of eggs in the incubator! Now that I know what to expect, I filled it up all the way (41 eggs total) because I know that they're not all going to hatch...However, this time I'm going to take one vent plug out so as to provide more than enough ventilation for the embryos. (Last time, nearly all of them formed; I could see that in the candling, it's just that they died before they could finish growing. I think maybe they didn't have enough air supply. The incubator was almost full last time, and with 36 eggs taking in oxygen faster than the small ventilation holes can supply, they'd be bound to run out.

Chip says, "Nato!" Too funny.

P.S. Sorry I haven't posted any pictures. I'll try to get some as soon as I can but it's Saturday...and you all know what that means. (BUSY BUSY BUSY!)
