Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Lol! Look what

Lol! Look what I found! This was on the very back page on DtE!

2012, many people are saying that crazy things are going to happen. I've heard natural disasters, the poles switching, and even becoming one with our higher beings. What do you guys think about this?

XD I totally remember everyone freaking out (I didn't believe in it though) about that, though I remember it being in 2015; because of a Mayan prophecy. Was there one in 2012 too?

*researchs*

Ohhhhhhhhhh tha tmakes sense.

Okay, I'll explain the doomsday freakouts in 2012 and 2015. An ancient Mayan prophecy predicted that doomsday would come in 2012. But nothing happened. Then scholars said "oops, it was 2015, not 2012! sorry for the false alarm."

"The supposed Mayan apocalypse at the end of the 13th b'ak'tun. The Earth would be destroyed by an asteroid, Nibiru, or some other interplanetary object; an alien invasion; or a supernova. Mayanist scholars stated that no extant classic Maya accounts forecast impending doom, and that the idea that the Long Count calendar ends in 2012 misrepresented Maya history and culture.[93][94][95] Scientists from NASA, along with expert archeologists, stated that none of those events were possible."

"Mayan scholars have updated their doomsday prophecy. The world will end in 2015, not 2012.Oops…. They made a mistake. There’s good news for those who were fearing the 2012 Mayan apocalypse. They counted wrong. The world is not going to end in December 2012. Instead, it’s going to end on September 3, 2015."

And obviously....the world didn't end.

XD XD XD XD XD XD XD

Haha, I remember that day in 2012 they told us the world would end! I wrote on the back of my math notebook something like:

"They say the world will end today. It's 3:30 in the afternoon, and it hasn't yet, so I don't think it will. I'm still here, so the world hasn't ended."

And, obviosly, the world didn't end and we all lived! Yay! I love happy endings! XD

Whaaat? AHAHAH!

Let's see... huh, I don't remember hearing anything about the world end, in 2012 or 2015! I don't remember much from those times anyway, them being a bit... boring in my life. I wouldn't have believed in it anyway, but nice idea for a story!

"Oh no,  in December 2012 the world's not gonna end. You can all relax."

"It's gonna end in September 2015!"

Cool! I remember laughing at some doomsday prediction. It might have been one of these. I laughed, but in the back of my mind I was still a teeny tiny bit worried. XD

I remember that my friend didn't come to school that day. My second grade teacher called a meeting on the rug to tell us that it wasn't true.

People thought there wasn't going to be a Christmas that year XD I wonder where they're going to put the goalposts now? 2020? That sounds dramatic... ;D

Okay, here goes.

Recently, my mom's been really obsessed over apocalypse predictions. She looks at websites, reads blogs, and watches videos.

She says that several times she has had dreams about there being two suns in the sky, and she was interested to see that other people have two.

She's been looking at reports of there being "celestial objects" and "UFOs" around the sun. How stupid.

Some of them look convincing, but others honestly look like they're made with flashlights and pieces of paper.

She's Catholic, and some things that she's been looking at say that sometime next September (2017) it's Our Lady of Fatima's 100 anniversary, and the world's going to end or something equally awful.

Look it up.

It makes me really mad, because while she's clicking away and watching those stupid, stupid videos I'm hearing and seeing it all. It's making me feel kind of scared. I mean, I'm not really a devote Catholic, but I believe that God is real and so this is kind of shaking me up.

I bet most of you heard about that crocidile attack at Disneyland a couple months back. My parents talked about it right in front of my face, and I ended up feeling sick for the next week. I couldn't believe it. I have a three year old brother, and I don't know what I'd do if anything ever happened to him.

I'm getting off subject. Why does my mom have to look at these things? I'm pretty sure that they're just tabloids, but it's gotten so far into my brain that I'm not even sure now. I mean, it's all possible, I guess...

Admins, do you have any thoughts on this?

Yes. I suggest you tell your mother that these things upset you and to please not talk about them in front of you or view videos when you're around. I don't believe in any predictions. There are so many wonderful, good things in the world to hear and see, many things to celebrate, like Olympic competition, beautiful music, cicadas singing (coming through my open window right now) . . .  Here's an African saying: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a present (gift)!

Thats too bad, I'm sorry, Leafpool. In the Bible it says, "And you do not know when the Son of man shall come" or something like that. Maybe tell your mom that no one will ever know when God comes to end the world. Ever. You can't find out through videos (which, in my opinion, are rubbish) and I don't believe in dreams, usually. I'm Catholic too. Don't worry. The world will only end when it's supposed too; God is in control. As long as we really love Him and obey Him, we will be safe when the end of the world comes.
