The Olympics!
The Olympics!
I am honestly shocked no one's made a thread about this already, but we can start now. I know they aren't over yet, but I was thinking in this thread we could rant about our favorite/least favorite athletes or sports, discuss who we think is going to win this or that, and so on.
I've mostly been watching swimming and gymnastics, because I've been busy during the day and only watched late at night. And I am now hooked on gymnastics. The Final Five (the American team) are amazing! These gymnists do unbelievable things. I never thought I'd be one for gymnastics, but this is really something to gape over.
Swimming's been really cool too-- Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Lilly King-- so fantastic! Ledecky has a fourteen-for-fourteen winning streak (on Tuesday, anyway, as I didn't get to watch Wednesday's) and smashed her own record on Sunday (I think) by a full second, maybe more! It was really cool to watch.
Ye end posts so easily . . . the end, I suppose! xD
There have been at least two other Olympic threads created this week and last, but I don't know where they are. And I haven't seen a lot of comments coming in on them. I'm hooked on them, too! Gymnastics, swimming, diving, kayaking, cycling . . .

Go Team USA! The gymnastics are super cool. I fall on my face when I try a somersault, so I find it incredibly impressive.
Oh, and yay! Saint's back! *virtual hug* Hobbes is kind of upset Feather hasn't shown up to the prom, so he's discreetly hanging around by the refreshments table and trying not to look like a loner.

l'm not really watching the Olympics this year (lack of cabel TV and streaming services.)
But yes, swimming is amazing! Michael Phelps's butterfly makes me green with envy and partly ashamed that l ever think that l'm silghtly good at swimming.
It's amusing to see that for two weeks every two years, everyone suddenly becomes and expert at sports.

You're right, Admins, there was another thread-- Inktail's, which is stats, second page of the Inkwell: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/249177
@Abi: Techinally I'm still away, but portable computers are awesome and desktops in Virginia are cool, so I can still be on the CB! Yay.
Also, YAY SIMONE BILES AND ALY RAISMAN! Gold and silver medals in the all-around for women's gymnastics! And Michael Phelps just won four gold medals in a row! Yay Team USA!

YES THE FINAL FIVE ARE AMAAAAZING! Did anyone watch the personal all-around last night? I did! Simone won and Aly got second! YAYAYAY! It's really incredible what they can do. They are doing some skills on beam that I am learning how to do on floor! I can do Giants, with my coach spotting me (FINALLY!), but the Olympic gymnasts are just unbelieveable!

I watched some!! Simone is AMAZING!! I also enjoyed watching Wang Yan's work, even though she wasn't doing so well.

Okay. So. You said we could rant on this thread, right? Well. Before I begin, I will inform you that I was born in America, but both of my parents were born and raised in Russia, before moing here. So, I have an emotional attachment to both countries, and am cheering for both in the Olympics.
So. I am currently really mad at Lilly King because, frankly, I don't think she's had very good sportsmanship AT ALL in the Olympics. I mean, look at how she's acting! She's made Yulia Efimova (of Russia) CRY. More than once. That is NOT okay, and not how America should be represented. She couldn't even muster politeness in front of cameras? I don't know if Lilly has apologized for her actions/ words yet, but I really think she should. I read a very interesting article by the Washington Post about the King/Efimova issue titled "In vilifying Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova, Americans are splashing murky waters". I think you should look it up, because it really clears some things up about Yulia Efimova.
Okay, so I could continue on for a while about this huge problem, but I won't. This has sort of helped me let out some of my dismay and anger over the actions of Lilly King. Thanks for putting up with it. :)
That's a good article, Kestrel. Thank you for speaking up. There's more than one view to almost every story. News commentators and editors may report selectively and not explain the whole situation. I think it's important to remember that at the Olympics, in politics, and in life.

Yaaaay Aly Raisman and Simon Biles!!! I was reallyreallyreally stressed during all of Aly Raisman's routines because she's really awesome and I wanted her to come in either first or second after her not so great bar routine and she did and I'm so happy:D:D:D:D:D:D:D!!!!!!!!! She is absolutely amazing at her floor routine.
Does anyone else just pick a random person and decide to go for them? I do that in swimming - just look at the names and decide who will win. Due to that I have now followed James Guy and cheered for him in everything and I have no clue why. He's from the UK, by the way.
Katie Ledecky is really fast. Kestrel is going to turn into her because she too many swim meets.
I don't like Ryan Lochte.
That gymnast from Russia called Aliya somethingsomething never smiled once.
I feel really bad for the girl who fell during beam and floor.
USA is crushing the world in gymnastics.
Whitewater kayaking looks really hard.
Yay! The end. You have now been updated on everyone who is amazing and not amazing in the Olympics.

Well, the US women's soccer team lost today :( I was watching soccer a lot. Did anyone watch it? Did you notice how whenever our goalie (Hope Solo) touched the ball, the Brazilian fans would go "Boooooo Zika!" My dad looked it up and it says that they do that because of some tweet that she posted. I think that's sort of funny. Go USA!

*cries* It's so sad! My one sport that I'm actually dedicated to is soccer, and the US team was so good! Sadness.

@The Riddler: I was kind of a fan of James Guy, just because of his name. He's a decent swimmer, too.
NEW UPDATES, FROM AN EMOTIONAL PERSPECTIVE!
WOOOO KATIE LEDECKY! Crushes her own world record in the 800 meter freestyle by over a point! She must have been 25 meters ahead of all the other swimmers! It was really crazy to watch, I must say.
And last night Michael Phelps was one in a three-way tie for silver in the 100 meter butterfly. Thus ends his gold medal streak, but he'd been swimming so much and at such an age (which they seem to be making a big deal out of) it's surprising it didn't happen before. If I'm not mistaken, he has one final race tonight, and gymnastics are back on, so I really hope my TV can find some cable connection.
