Middle School

Middle School

Please don't guess me!

I'm starting middle school this year, and I want advice. Any advice. Like, how to memorize a schedule or how to act cool. I also want ideas for how to have cool school supplies-like DIYs. My middle school only allows healthy snacks and we have lunch at 10:15, so does anyone know how to deal with such an early lunch? Thank you so much.

My elementary school used to have a really early lunch. My answer for how to deal with that?

. . . Don't! Just get used to it!

It'll become natural after a while.

My school is pretty huge, so I don't know about "acting cool" or finding stuff for your lockers (because we have to carry around fifteen-pound backpacks everywhere we go instead). I can assure you that if you keep your schedule in an accessible place, you don't really have to memorize it; you just gradually know where to go.

As for early lunch, my school has this too, but it doesn't bother me because I have breakfast at around 6. Perhaps you could bring a not-very-large lunch, have a snack later on in the day, and then eat something when you get home from school? I know a few kids who do that (minus the snack).

Ah, Middle School. I remember that...

Schedules are something you need to be able to do. I mean, you don't want to be late, you know? Really, just keep the paper schedule with you (I believe they should give you one) and constantly read through it in between classes, during lunch, etc. In a few days you'll have that memorized.

About "acting cool" don't worry about it. Be yourself. Middle School can be a fantastic place full of unique people. If you act yourself you will find people like you. Acting cool is the biggest mistake you could ever make.

DIYs aren't something I worry myself in. But look up on Youtube (if you are allowed to). There are thousands of DIYs there. Or Google it.

Lunch at 10:15? You must be kidding me, that is ridiculous. Even my school for the youngest of kids (our school is PreK-12), lunch is at 11:30. Middle schoolers and high schoolers have lunch at 12:30. 11:30 on Thursdays when we eat with the little kids. So... I can only think, eat a lot during lunch. It'll keep you full for the rest of the day. And if you can have a snack, do so maybe two hours before school's out for an extra boost. If it has to be healthy, I recommend something healthy but filling. Fruits, veggies, etc. Don't go for granola bars (I'm assuming they allow it) for those are usually around 90 calories and won't keep you full for long. Full at all, in fact.

Finally, just remember to be yourself, learn good studying habits, and set priorities. Don't worry yourself with making huge amount of friends or fitting in right away. The academics are first priority. Learn your way around, follow those tips, and you are ready to go. Good luck!

Thanks for all the help! Top! I am going to wake up at 6:40, eat breakfast at around 7:00, and leave for school at 7:30-I'm going to bike- because the bell is at 8:00. This will be really different because in elementary school there were three bells and I had to line up. My mom can't drive me anymore because my siblings are in elementary school, and they leave at around 8:20. School ends for me at 3:00 instead of 3:25 in elementary school. Top! Top! Top!

* Don't worry about memorizing your schedule. You'll get it by the time the first week is over.

* Also, don't stress about being late to class. If you are late in the first two weeks, even if you end up in the wrong classroom by mistake, I promise you all the teachers and everybody will be very nice about it and get you sorted out.

* My school hands out an agenda/planner notebook on the first day. I don't know if your school does, but if they don't, be sure to keep a notebook or something to write down your homework in. It really helps.

* I try to keep all of my homework in one folder, so that my backpack isn't heavy from multiple folders/binders. Especially as you start getting into the more advanced math subjects (like Algebra, Geometry) you will not want to carry your gigantic, two-inch math binder to and from school.

* Don't worry about acting cool. You will be much happier with friends that like who you are than with friends who like who you pretend to be. :)

I hope this advice helps! Good luck!

Byte says kucm. Cucumbers are right! Our garden has been giving us way, way too many of them...

Too many cucumbers? You can NEVER have too many!

And... Not to scare anyone from Middle School, but being late... I've had experiences with that. Then again, my school was dreadful and the teachers hated me. But in my high school now (we moved), I've gone to the wrong class numerous times. In a class of 100 kids for PreK-12. And they don't get mad. Maybe exchange a few laughs, but that's it. So it really depends on the school and the teachers. But don't worry about it.

You'll do great, just don't stress! Wink We're here for you if you need more help.
