Jump rope rhymes

Does anyone know  any good jump rope rhymes? My little sister wants me to teach her some but about all I know is "Cinderella dressed in yella..." and "Miss Susie had a steamboat" (but I'd rather not teach her that one). Any and all rhymes would be appreciated! Thank you!

Do you know Teddy bear, teddy bear, Brynne?

Yeah, teddy bear goes like this. (TB = Teddy Bear)

TB, TB , touch the ground

TB, TB, turn around

TB, TB, go up the stairs

TB, TB, say your prayers

TB, TB, turn off the light

TB, TB, say good night! (jumper then jump outs)

I have more!!!

I don't know that many jump rope rhymes - but have you seen the Chinese jump rope book by Klutz?? (sorry I forgot, is that how you spell it?) It's really cool!

Do hand clapping rhymes/songs work? I'm guessing you know Miss Mary Mack, but if you don't I can tell you. Ooh I might make a thread on Klutz!! I LOVE those books!

Ah yes, the notorious "Miss Susie had a steam boat." I got mad at a friend, who's in 5th grade, who said that at the dinner table in front of my little siblings.

I'm guessing I should be glad that I don't know that one, huh?

I used to know a ton...

One about the hills of Mexico...

I dunno.

I did this one when I was little. It's really short, but you can just sing it again.

Potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, peas, your momma says you gotta eat a lot of these!

Yeah, it's kind of cheesy, huh? That's okay, I enjoyed doing it a lot when I was younger! How old is your little sister?

Strawberry  Shortcake goes like this:

Strawberry shortcake, cherry on top, who's the boy (or girl) that you like a lot?

Is it A, B, C, D, E, (go through the alphabet when the jumper gets to the end of the alphabet, go on to numbers). If the jumper stops on one of the letters, the jump rope swingers choose a boy (or girl) whose 1st name starts with that letter. If it's a number, then that's how many boyfriends (or girlfriends) that jumper has!!!

It might not be that appropriate for a 5-year-old, though.

Oh yah!  I remember one like that!  It was the same idea, but we said something else instead of Strawberry Shortcake!

OK, these are ones my mom taught me when i was 7. The stuff in italics (is that how you spell it?) are the actions that go with it. You do Peter and Paul with 2 people on a large jump rope. But it is ok if you only have 1 person.

Peter and Paul

Two little birdys sitting on a wall

One named Peter First person jumps in

The other named Paul If you have a second person, they jump in.

Fly away Peter, Fly away Paul Persons jump out

Don't come back until your ... is called

... could stand for month, letter, age, birthday number, or anything else. Caller would chant for months, January, February, March... And when caller hits Peter or Paul's birthday month they jump back in. Game continues until people get bored or you run out of stuff to chant.

Had a little Austin

An Austin is a type of car, if you don't know.

Had a little Austin, 1948

Turned around the coooooooorrrrnnneeerrrrr slamed on the brakes, while you say corner jumper spins around.

Policeman caught me, put me in jail.

All I had was Ginger Ale.

PEPPER! 1, 2, 3, 4, ... Pepper is why you start spinning the rope faster, count your jumps to see how many cans of Ginger Ale you have.

I'll post again if i can remember any more!

These are great, Kendra!
