Umm.... I don't mean to be rude, but could everyone please just call him Remus? Being called by your last name on your birthday. No one has a problem with calling Sirius Black by his first name. The same should be with Remus.

Well, you could argue that calling him by his last name is a mark of respect rather than formality. Lupin is amazing and certainly deserves that respect.
