Ask Admins Thread

Again, I was digging around in the realm of old threads and found a few of these. However, I didn't see any current ones, so I decided to make one myself.

Now, as the name implies, you post questions you want to ask the All-Powerful Administrators. So...yeah. Enjoy!

I don't have anything to ask at the moment, but I will post some of those nagging questions later. ;)

Admins, do you ever post something, look at it, find something inappropriate, and say, "Oh no, I can't believe I let that post!"?

Occasionally. Sometimes we delete comments after they've been posted. When we're in a hurry we may miss something.

Admin, if there is an inappropriate post, then do you edit out the bad content and let the rest go through or do you just not post it altogether?

Two, do Ask Admin threads generate more work for you?

(There's only one admin right now.)

Yes, if just part of a comment in inappropriate we would edit that part out and post the rest, as long as the rest makes sense after the deletion.

The number of comments to post each day is so variable that I can't say Ask Admin threads generate more work. You might be submitting a question to us instead of writing a story that would need to be reviewed.

Easy questions can be answered quickly, but if you ask a difficult question it might take more time to answer.

Oh yeah, sorry about that! I didn't even think about this thread causing more work for you guys. *guilty face*

By the way, here is another Ask Admins thread made by another CBer from a while ago that might be able to answer more questions.

http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/93894

And another one.... http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/137544

There are plenty more, and if you want to read them just Google search.

site:cricketmagkids.com Ask Admins

It really works! But make sure you only put one space between cricketmagkids.com and Ask Admins. Otherwise, I'm told it won't work.

Good luck!

Admin, what is a CAPTCHA? And what does "top" mean?

CAPTCHA refers to the code you are asked to type before submitting a comment to us.
Top is what people say when they want to move a thread from a back page back to the front of the line.

Admins, what are your average posting schedules?

No set schedule. As variable as life itself. I post whenever I can, but not when I'm at concerts, plays, shopping, church, movies, cleaning the house, etc.

On regular workdays, the office Admin MAY start posting about 9 or 9 :30 central time, then again the the early afternoon. Then I take over about 3:30 or so. But other projects may take precedence and throw this "schedule" off.

Admins, weird question, I know, but are you guys boys or girls? And is being an Admin a position you have to work up to (like a project manager rather than an intern)? Also, is there really an "age limit" for the CB as long as you're still being respectful and responsible and all that jazz?

~Poetic Panda

P.S. Firefox says igtk. I got tickled? That seems likely...

We have both male and female Admins. We didn't necessarily have to work up to being an Admin. The jobs just went to appropriate people. There's no age limit for posting on Chatterbox.

One more thing...I didn't know where else to post this.

I really love it that both Cricket magazine and the Chatterbox don't have ads. That was actually one of the things that drew my mom into getting the Click and Ladybug magazines when I was younger. She, too, wasn't interested in those size double-zero clothes sales and chocolates. So thanks for that.

Also, I think this will be the last thing, but I can't guarantee...in the future, if we're submitting something for a contest, does the work have to be from the current year? Or can we submit work from a while ago that we think would work perfectly with the theme?

~Poetic Panda (again)

P.S. Firefox says yrxz. I don't speak any language other than English, Firefox. Please speak to me in English.

It would be OK to submit your own original work from an earlier year if it fits the theme and if it has not been published elsewhere. And we would judge it in your current age group, not in the age you were when you created it.

Admins, is it possible for a CAPTCHA to be a swear word (I really, really hope not because I could not imagine typing one in)?

I hope not, too, but I really don't know. If it's just a random 4 letters it could happen. You could look at the captcha first and if undesirable you could start again and get another code. Or type it in wrong and you'll probably be given different letters.

Yes. I got almost a swear word once, but the was a y.

Admins, is it okay to use common abbreviations for phrases that include mild swear words?

We don't allow swear words, nor abbreviations for them or any other abbreviations we don't understand.

Hey Admins!

I don't want to seem like I'm complaining or anything, but I just want to make sure.

I posted a thread yesterday, and I just want to make sure it got submitted, because it said we lost internet just as I hit 'Submit'.

PLease don't think I'm complaining, and I'm really sorry if it comes off that way. I just wanted to make sure y'all got it.

If you can't find it posted, then I didn't receive it. I can't possibly remember each comment that I post and who it's from. If you tell me what it said, I might remember if I saw it. But if you can't find it, fine to send it again.

Hi Admins!

Ok, I have a few questions that I wanted to ask:

What is the purpose of Cricket?

When did Cricket get started?

Also, I hope I'm not bugging you, but I posted a thread on Chirp At Cricket, but I haven't seen it yet.  It started like this: @Scylla. Could you tell me if you got it please? Thanks!

The mission of Cricket is to present top-quality stories, poems, and illustrations for young people. It was first published in September 1973.

I'm still posting comments now.
