Don't you hate

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Don't you hate

Don't you hate it when a teacher punishes the whole class for what one person did?

I mean, in the case today, it kind of made sense. But they went really extreme. It was kind of crazy how much they reacted to this, well, not-so-small thing.

See, someone spit on the wall in gym.

Our gym teacher made us sit down on our floor spots and wait until someone spoke up, which was fair. But what I found shocking was that she called our Cluster Coordinator!

Bit of backround here: Clusters are pretty much like homerooms. They're organized by grade, letter, and number, like so: 6H3 or something. There are four numbers in each letter cluster and __ letter clusters in each grade (I don't know, to be honest). For each letter cluster, there's a set of four teachers for ELA, Social Studies, Science, and Math. One of them is the Cluster Coordinator, kind of like the boss.

Okay, back to the story. Our Cluster Coordinator called the Social Studies and Science teachers, so they all came up. It was this huge big thing, they were talking about DNA tests (but it was all talk, you aren't allowed to do DNA tests on kids without their parents' permission) and looking at the recording of the gym (there are cameras). I just found it annoying that people like me, good, well-behaved students (not to brag) are shamed just as much as the one who actually did it when it obviously wasn't us. In this case, I suppose it was fair, because they were solving a case. But last year, in elementary school, if even one of us talked, we had to sit silently for the rest of the period, which really wasn't fair.

I know! It's SO annoying!!!! At lunch there's always a few people, almost always the same people who are loud, and annoying, and being reckless. Well, the entire grade gets punished, and our teachers get mad, and that's how it's been for as long s I can remember. And it's always the same people! The lunch ladies should know by now that it isn't all of us that are being loud. Same with our bus driver. Also, last year, we had a lunch lady who was super scary, super sneaky, and super mean. She flipped out if we didn't raise our hands before getting up (then again they all do) and once, I literally didn't even fully stand up, to throw something out, I only had one foot on the ground, and I was halfway sitting on the bench, and she turned around at the exact moment and I was in so much trouble. The trash can was so close, that I didn't even have to walk to get to it, yet she went full rage mode when I didn't do anything. I could go on and on, but I have to go. Thanks for letting me rant.

Aw, that's harsh. But you're right, lunch is also terrible. And recess, too... our recess teachers last year would keep the whole grade inside if only a few people misbehaved. Or if a few boys were talking, they would make all the boys sit out, and vice versa.

I know EXACTLY how you feel St. Owl. A couple years ago in elementary school, I had a really strict music teacher. One time, he made the whole class in trouble, just because of 1 person. I HATED IT. I mean, I knew I was well behaved and followed the rules. I was really angry, and, to tell the truth, I started to cry. Long story short, it was NOT a good day.

I feel your pain. Let's call these maybe thirteen boys (ALL OF 'EM) in my class that always got us in trouble.

SERIOUSLY?? DNA tests? For one person spitting an eensy-weensy little bit of spit. Inconceivable! Heehee Princess Bride reference...

I know I've said a lot about the evilness of lunch ladies (except for the one really nice one I had) already, but here's more. Today at lunch my friends (who are boys but not anywhere close to boyfriends) were sitting on one half of a table and three or four really obnoxious boys were sitting on the other half. My friends noticed that there was a spilled water bottle in the middle of the table, so the table was wet. They told the lunch lady that a water bottle had spilled and probably asked for paper towels or something. The lunch lady went crazy and  blamed them for spilling the water. She got all worked up about it for no reason. She made them stay at their table while everyone else went back up to their classrooms, and said that she was going to get the principal to make one of them confess that he spilled water even though none of them did it! The PRINCIPAL!  Just because of some spilled water! I mean, COME ON LADY! Don't cry over spilled milk! Literally! Sorry, but I have a huge problem with her doing this.

She never actually got the principal, but still!

I have similar problems.

5TH PERIOD CHOIR

UGH! I CANNOT SIMPLY EXPRESS MY FRUSTRATION WITH THESE ********!

They just came to choir because they though band and strings were too much work/got kicked out of band or strings.

And now they talk. And talk. And talk. And talk. And talk.

When class starts, they talk.

During roll call, they talk.

When we're supposed to be singing, they talk.

When the music stops, they talk.

When the teacher is talking, they talk.

When the teacher is dropping grades and giving detentions for talking all class long, THEY CONTINUE TO TALK... and talk... and talk... and talk doesn't sound like a word anymore.

6TH PERIOD MATH CLASS

Okay, just a little quick background: I'm in the GT Magnet in my school, and I go to an Intergrated I math class, meaning I (plus six other girls and a boy) take GT math with the 7th graders.

The GT math part is irrelevant. The part that's relevant is the 7th graders.

Just like choir.

In both periods, innocent people get caught in the line of fire.

Sheesh.  As A 7th grader this year, I am really glad I'm homeschooled.
