Chatterbox: Down to Earth

NaNo Sharing and Feedback!

I was thinking about this and decided it was a good idea! Now that NaNo's started, why don't we share our writing? We can give each other feedback and... stuff! Yeah! Fun!

The beginning of my novel is as follows:

The woman was calling.

 I could hear her, not
only her voice but her footsteps as they ran, and me ahead of her. It was me
she was calling and me she was seeking, but she would not catch me.

 I doubled back along
a deserted corridor and ran along it until I reached the hallway I knew very
well, and pulling open the nearest door I slipped inside the darkness of a
broom cupboard.

 I could still hear
her calls, but they were distant. Her footsteps were fading as she paraded
further and further away from me.

 I sat down on a crate
near the door, near the small sliver of light coming from the cracks around it.
I did not dare make light in here, and even so I could not: there were no
candles in a closet. Instead, the darkness just invited me into my memories, the
horrors of the time I had just lived…

 Scattered scenes flew
back at me: screams of the gentle, blood racing down the cloud, spear points
stabbing and stabbing again, the evil running down, and up, and down again.
Cowards who ambush the gentle giants, cowards that are afraid of the gentlest
of beasts—cowards that attack my friends, my family.

 And the tears that I’d
held back for so long started to fall…
