Chatterbox: Down to Earth
On the "Global
On the "Global Warming is..." thread, I noticed people talking about God. That thread took a long time to load for me, so I am posting here.
People were saying that there is no evidence that God exists. Here are some questions:
1. Where did humans come from? Some of these ideas circulating *coughbigbangtheorycough* are just outlandish- something exploded and a whole race of humans was born? *skeptical snort*
2. Where did that ideas about religion come from? If God doesn't exist (which He does!) then where did these ideas come from? I believe that Jesus came down from Heaven to save the World from sin. And that is why He would save us from anything (@ people on GW thread). He loves us.
3. If we don't believe that there's something bigger than us, we really are in trouble. We start thinking that we are above everything else and all-powerful, and this isn't true. SOMEONE had to create everything in the universe, and if we don't at least acknowledge that then we have no hope.
I believe very firmly in God. I'm a Catholic and proud of it. People were saying that there's no proof that God exists. I disagree, with flying colors. There is so much proof from people everywhere that it's undeniable, in fact. I've prayed to God and He's pulled through in the most amazing ways. My friends agree with me; it's happened for them too, and many other people I know. We've all experienced miracles. I know I have.
Please post your opinions on God here. Summarizing my post: I very firmly believe.

Agreed (with Lena). And is it a fact that Catholicism is the best? *opinion*

I personally think it's Mary Jo's opinion that Catholicism is the best, but she can think it's fact if she wants. I don't mind.

*applause for Lena* I agree with you fully, except that I'm non-religious. I also don't want to get worked up like I did in the "Global Warming..." and "Other life forms???" threads: I think I've done enough debating. :)

*blushes at applause* Thanks!

To poetonearth13- Catholicism came first. "And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it."- Matthew 16:18. Peter was the first Pope of the Catholic faith, the first church.

That, Lena, is like saying: Is being kind to animals a fact or opinion?

I'm just going to throw this out there. I know it's kind of random and might be off topic.... but.... ;)
I'm going to use catholicism as an example. Pretend it was proven that it was true, that it was the right faith, that God's existence was obvious, and everyone knew Jesus was the Lord.
It's true.
Now take an ancient Egyptian. He doesn't believe in the One God. He thinks there are many, you know the story... and has his own views on the after life.
When he dies (since Catholicism is true) does he still go to his own little Egyptian afterlife? Or is he judged by the real God? I mean come on, play along, he'll be judged by the real God cause he is, well, the real God.
Take Protestants. Catholics believe that there's a place called purgatory where the souls who aren't perfect go to be, of course, perfected. Protestants believe that if they believe Jesus Christ is the lord and accept that (sorry guys if I'm wrong on what you believe :) ) they will go straight to heaven.
And it's really there because remember its a fact that Catholicism is true. Does a protestant go there? Do they just go straight to heaven like they believe? No, because what they were believing wasn't true. It wasn't fact. And something that's true is fact, right?
How bout an Atheist. When s/he dies does that person meet God face to face even though the person didn't believe in God? YES! Because in my perspective Religion is A VERY important thing in this world. Because after life is important right? And how you spend it depends on how you live your life.
Now I don't want to be one of those people who nags you about what your religion is, and why you should convert, or why you're wrong. Because the Catholic faith is about love, about loving God.
If someone lives on an island and never heard of God, that person still has a chance on going to heaven. Because it's not his/her fault, right? As long as the person lives his/her life in a kind and loving way, that person has most likely earned eternal life.
So if there's one true religion, it's fact. And if it's fact you have to accept it. And if you accept it you have to live by it. So don't just blow off religion cause you don't really care. What you do in this life is going to affect you in the next.

Grace, I don't believe it can be proved that there is one true religion. There are many different beliefs and ways to live and worship (or to not worship), and each one should be respected.
(April 28, 2009 - 10:24 pm)
I kind of messed up now that I read it again. It wasn't supposed to say that something like that can be proven, I meant that lets just say it was true. Not that everyone believed it or that everyone knew it was true. Does that make since?

I agree with Ellen. I really do not think that one religion is better than others. Not Catholicism. Not Judaism. Not anything. And please, afterlife discussions are way too much. Please, let's not go there. Okay?
(April 29, 2009 - 11:33 am)
Okay. :) I'll let you guys have your opinions. :)
(April 29, 2009 - 1:29 pm)
Oh, and I do agree that everyone's religions should be respected.
I think my post was more towards people who don't really care whether or not God is real, because they say it won't effect them. Not to make people think that Catholicism is the real faith or anything like that....
(April 29, 2009 - 1:35 pm)
Thanks, Grace! :) :) :) That means a lot to me.

:D
I think it's cool that you're Jewish. This might sound weird, but sometimes we celebrate Passover! Because, the Christian/Catholic origin is Jewish, we have a lot of traditions that were handed down from you guys. :) I'm sure we don't do it nearly the same way that you do, but my mom has a Christian version.... and we eat the same foods and things. Instead of wine we have sparkling grape juice - yum! :D

I've heard of Christian/Catholics having seders - cool! :) I think seders are fun, when they're not boring. :)
