I was wondering...
What is everyone else's position on cell phones? Should they be allowed in public when it is not an emergency? What crosses the line between rude and understandable? Do cell phones keep us from developing personal relationships? Tell me what your view is.

Well, a small cell phone to carry in the mall or something so you can call your parents would be fine. But I hate it when people randomly take out their phone and open it and close it like 18 times just to say "I HAVE A PHONE AND YOU DON'T." I hate it when people show off like that! And I couldn't care less to have a cell phone, I mean, I wouldn't mind having one, but I can still live life without one. Unlike some people at my school would DIE for one. As I said before, a small one is just fine. I also think that the big keyboard texting thing is just a little too much because people don't need that much. Isn't it enough just to call people? Well, that's just what I think! (I also don't like itouch, that is just WAY-WAY-WAY to much!)

I don't have a cell phone, but most of my friends do. It's sometimes annoying when I'm talking to them, and then they get a call and spend five or ten minutes giving me "just-a-minute" looks while chattering away with someone else, but most people know to keep conversations short in that kind of situation, so I'm not against cell phones.
I do think that people should seriously NOT TALK ON THE PHONE WHILE THEY'RE DRIVING... sorry for excessive caps. It's taking risks for no really good reason, and they're not just risking themselves.
Incidentally, I thought that the cell-phones-give-you-brain-damage thing was a myth.

I agree with the no cell phone talk while driving. That's really dangerous for not only the driver, but for the cars/people around him/her.

No, that's true . . . cell phones release TONS of EMFs (Electro-Magnetic Frequencies).

I got a cell phone in November because I'm starting to drive and wanted a way to get ahold of my parents when I was out or with other friends. That was what pushed it over the edge, as well as the fact that it would come in handy at other times.
I also asked to have text messaging, since that is the way many of my friends communicate, I offered to pay for that part of my bill, and I do. Unlimited, which is good since, now people please don't freak out, one of the recent bills had over 7,000 messages (sent and recieved).
Personally, I quite like texting. It CAN be less obtrusive than a phone call, and is easier to carry on in between other activities. I make sure not to text when other people are around, and if I must, to ask before reading or responding.
It can be impersonal and lightweight, but only if you make it so. You can get to know someone that way perhaps better than phone calls, like one of my friends and I. We met, traded phone numbers and texted a lot, then progressed to calling now and then, in between visits. It's worked well. Having instant communication without the awkwardness that can ensue when talking to someone you don't know well over the phone....especially if that someone is the opposite gender. 0_o Eliminates a lot of teasing as well.....
So...what was this about? Oh yes, whether we like cell phones or not. Yes, I like mine. I like using it, I like keeping in touch with my best friend when she's at her mom's or her dad's (couldn't do that before), I like being able to contact people when I need to, I like a lot about it.
I don't like it when people are rude with their cell phones, but I don't like it when people are rude with anything, phone or otherwise.
Treat others with proper respect at all times, and we'll all get along fine. Them's my tuppence. ;)
