Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Hey! I need
Hey! I need a bit of cat advice.
I love cats. I know a lot about them. But I don't know about medical deseases and stuff. I have two possible problems.
1. My kitten, Oreo? Since she was a stray she has all kinds of things, but she has a Cold ( which in case you don't know a cold in cats is equivalent to a human flu ) and we won't be able to get her to the vets until July. Is that bad?
2. My older cat, his right eye is discolored. It's new. My dad and I just noticed it today. I searched things up but I can't figure out . He's 18. I'm worried it's cancer or something. I don't think my dad will have enough money to take him to the vets, either. I'm worried if he does go to the vet they will say he has all kinds of other problems too!
Does anybody know anything that could help me?
I think 18 is pretty old for a cat. We had a cat that lived to be 21 or 22. The last few years she did look older. Her eyes looked different. We just loved her, helped her eat and drink as we could, and kept her warm. The vet said she'd probably had some strokes, that we should just help her stay comfortable.

Has your kitten had any vaccinations lately? Because after one of my cat got her rabies, she had a bad fever for twenty four hours. She wouldn't eat or drink so we got a bottle for puppies and filled it with chicken broth and force fed her, besides that just try and keep her comfortable and it should subside on it's own.

We adopted her through the Humane Society. I BELIEVE she has had her shots. I don't know though. She's still pretty active, but not as usual. She usally zips around the house like a hurricane but now she will just walk up and down the steps to go to the bathroom or sleep. Her nose and chin is all messed up. Her temperature is normal ( if i' s winter cold is good temp if summer warm is good temp) hers is warm but my older cat, Zorro's ear is cold ( now that I think about it I think it's been that way for a while now). But like I said I am hesitant to take Zorro to the vet becuase they will probably say he has Heart Worms and Cancers and Aids and stuff like that. But I am really worried about both of them. I'm not sure if they will be okay in July! Thanks Adimin, and Forrest!
If you adopted through the Humane Society, I would think you could phone or go there and ask your questions. They should know better than I do.

Oh, I love the Humane Society! I actually volunteer and foster through there :).
On a more serious note, colds aren't very serious for cats, in my opinion. My cat has had a cold since she was a little kitten- she always has a runny nose and a sensitive stomach. I'd agree with the Admin- to call the Humane Society. I know mine has an entire vet clinic sector.
Our cat is 19, too, like a year older than Zorro (is that his name?). Her eye (probably due to her ongoing cold) has had a splot of red liquid (maybe blood) in it for some time, although it never gets larger or smaller. I don't know how discolored Zorro's eye is, but if it's a lot, I'd try to look it up and see what there is on that.
One more thing- if one of them stops eating, put some chicken broth on their nose. Reflexively, they'll lick it off, and drink more. That's what we did with our cat when he was sick.
This probably didn't help at all, but I hope your kitties are soon safe and sound. Please keep updating on their health- I hope they get better soon!
