Chatterbox: Down to Earth
OK this is
OK this is the new spot for creation vs. evolution. If someone else started one we will just have to pick.

Hookay, people, Haley has decided to bring up entropy!
Entropy: a thermodynamic quantity representing the unavailability of a system's thermal energy for conversion into mechanical work, often interpreted as the degree of disorder or randomness in the system.
Or, in plain English, it's what makes ice cubes melt and hot chocolate cool over time.
Pretty much, a system, whether it's a droplet of frozen water or something as large as, say, an entire universe, will become less complex and more chaotic over time, unless its energy is input from some external source. Ice melts, stars die, living organisms die, rocks crumble to dust, etc, etc.
Think this over for a minute. Wouldn't it be logical to assume that a species would become less, rather than more, complex over time?
...Of course, you could say that evolution only appears to defy entropy because the energy input is localized, e.g., environmental factors.
Also, on an unrelated note: the majority of genetic mutations, which are really just DNA copying errors, are malignant, rather than beneficial, which, to me, anyway, doesn't seem like the best basis for claiming that we evolved from microscopic bacteria. Like fixing a computer by whacking it with your shoe...

I don't have it right now, but Evolution for Dummies talks about this very nicely.

The Earth gets its energy from the Sun. Therefore, it's not a closed system. and I would argue that evolution isn't a purely mechanical process, so it can be excluded from the entire "evolution theory of entropy".
The commonly malignant nature of mutations makes it all the more amazing for me.

Hey, Emily, if something as magical as God creating everything out nothing can happen, why can't a cow turn into a whale?
(September 1, 2008 - 1:04 pm)
Because you're saying it happened entirely by chance, rather than entirely on purpose.

Do you think that we could calm this down a little more? It's getting to be repetitive and people are stretching to keep the argument going. If anything, could we at least change it from an argument to a conversation. Thank you.

If evolution is really happening, then why are there no intermediate links?
Also, someone said that we homeschoolers don't know anything about science. EXCUSE ME, PERSON!!! I am proudly homeschooled! (And I have a reputation for being smart at my church.)
(September 3, 2008 - 4:51 pm)
I'll ignore the first one for now.
I NEVER said you didn't take science. Remember, I was homeschooled from 4th to 7th grade.
I also have a "Smartness repution" at my church, were my DAD is minister.
(September 4, 2008 - 4:01 pm)
OK, you're ignoring the first one for now. Why? Because you can't explain it, or because I offended you? If I offended you, I'm sorry. You are smart... I just don't agree with some of your theories. So, please explain the "intermediate link" thing.

I worried I'll make a fool of my self. Anyways, I can't remember any right now. Anyone else want to answer this?

We need a new post. This thread has trouble loading. I'll just say to Vendy, higher up, although I can think of one benificial mutation... "they don't say, 'Don't marry a cousin or you'll have a genius for a kid'"... That was a quote. Oh, and if evolution is true, geniuses like that should have taken over by now. See you on the new thread.
