So, well, uh...

People think that white people can't be subjects of racism. Well... a few months ago my "friend" starting bugging me and telling me I couldn't be smart or anything because I'm not Asian.

I'm compltely open (or as open as I can be, without having people run away screamingTongue out) to all races, and it's ust annoying.

Do you think I'm being oversensitive, and do you think that I am just being stupid?

Neither.

Just tell your friend that you are DONE.

"Normal" people are complicated. It's best not to take chances.

Ummm... okay, let me put it this way.

You aren't being stupid or oversensitive. When I posted that thing about my class, and you responded about some of your friend's remarks, that is something to be taken seriously. I honestly doubt that she understands exactly what she's saying; in fact, she's probably just joking around. But you should let her know that comments like that are racist, and illegal.

So no, you aren't being stupid or oversensitive. I get it completely.

No. She isn't joking. Last week, she brought in all these articles and charts and stuff about why Asian people are smarter than Amercans and stuff. She's not joking. At all. And she completely understands: she says it in a way that you know she knows that she knows what she's saying, and she hits all my sensitive spots with what she says. I tried telling her, but she said you can't be racist towards white people.

It isn't your fault.

IT'S COMMON CORE'S FAULT. COMMON CORE LEARNING STANDARDS SET THE BAR TOO LOW, WHICH IS WHY OUR COUNTRY IS RANKED LOW IN MATH. BECAUSE CC IS EVIL.

DOWN WITH COMMON COOORREEEEE!!!!!!!!

What's common core?

It's a learning standard that all states are encouraged to adopt. The theory is that when someone moves, their new school won't be CRAZY AHEAD or CRAZY BEHIND their old schools. Unfortunately, the curriculum sets the bar too low. SATs have actually been "dumbed down" to fit to CC! It's horrifying! Graduating magna cum laude means that much less! Waaaa!

That's...awful. I go to a private school, and I think that we are ahead of most public schools in Math, but if Common Core has actually made SAT's EASIER????!!?!?!?!?!? That's crazy. And not the good kind.

@Admins-

Thanks for deleteing all of my exclamation points! They may have been a bit much. :)

You're welcome. I try to keep the excesses to a minimum, making messages easier to read and comprehend!

She is right that Asia is on average smarter than America; the schools are different.

But she should not have said you can't be racist to white people, because you can.

*groans* I HATE this stereotype. It doesn't help that I'm half Asian and am considered the head of class. I'm not crazy about that, either.

Listen, you are not being oversensitive OR stupid. In fact, it's your friend who's being totally not sensitive and even more stupid. I assume that she's of some sort of Asian decent? You've already proved that you are an amazing student. What does this "smart" mean, anyway? That you happen to have a bit more information in your head than most kids your age? That you happen to be able to do certian problems quickly? That you happen to like learning and want to learn more? A lot of the scientists who made core discoveries and did amazing work weren't Asian (I mean, have you seen some of the Roman architecture or heard of Einstien or Archimedes or Shakespeare?)

I'm thinking that if your friend is saying this so much and is purpousfully hurting you like this, maybe you should start seeing less of her, or point blank refuse to listen when she starts one of these conversations. The way she does it, I think people would classify it as a sort of "verbal violence." She does know that this is hurtful to you, right? If not, tell her.

Don'ts forget, SE, that you are amazing. Never forget that you are an awesome girl. Don't let people pull you down and trash all of your confidence. You are amazing because you are you - not a girl trying to impersonate the popular girl of the school or some star or something. Quote Oscar Wilde: "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."

(Please forgive the spelling errors - spell check won't work on CB and my brain is frazzled right now.)

Thanks. That made me feel a lot better. I told her it bothered me, but she said I was just being stupid and oversensitive.

Yes, she is of Asian descent.

DOWN WITH COMMON CORE!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOWN, DOWN, DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the caps. I'm very passionate about this.

Oh, boy. No, you are not being stupid or oversensitive. Maybe you should just quit listening to her when she starts on this, or name a few of the more famous people who have been known as geniuses. Or, maybe you should see a bit less of her, if she's pressing this issue a lot. . .

Hi, guys.

I want to address another awkward topic.

There is someone on the Cb who I don't... like as much. And I don't think that person likes me much, either. I don't want to say who it is, and I feel awful. Thoughts?

I know who this person is. I won't say anything... but... I'll keep it between us. :)

That's hard. I guess we all have CBers that we don't really "love."
