The mysterious pie!

The mysterious pie!

This problem caused a lot of controversy. Here it is:

The weight of a pie is 4/5 lb. + 4/5 of the weight of the pie. How much does the pie weigh?

People say it is 4/5 of 4/5. They couldn't be more wrong.

The useless pie weighs 4 pounds. Here's how: the weight of a whole pie = 5/5. 5/5-4/5=1/5. Therefore, 4/5 of a pound is 1/5 of the overall weight of the pie, which means that the pie weighs 4/5*5 pounds. 4/5*5=20/5, which simplifies to 4 pounds. I was one of the few people who actually got it right! Adults say that it weighs 4/5 of 4/5 of a pound. Which is soo wrong.

Any thoughts? Please comment!

I haven't even the slightest clue what this is about. But having read through the problem, based on what you're saying, I likely (my math skills are so poor) would not have figured that out, at least not for a while, so excellent job!
