These were one of the games on the old CB.
We haven't had one in forever.
Okayyy......
so let's do.............
Math vs. Reading/writing!!
I'm for reading!! It's so easy, and math takes forever. Seriously, how is math enjoyable?

Why? Is there something wrong?
(February 19, 2015 - 4:14 pm)
Nothing wrong! i was just trying to top another post.

Cool! It sounds fun!
Reading and writing are the heart of dreams and imagination and... all that stuff. They are the way people all over the world can harness magic, become a princess, or escape from a tower. And writing? Writing puts dreams and imagination into words, words that can be shared throughout the world to read... hence the loop.
Meanwhile, even though math is very important, there is something to point out: you need to know how to read to read math problems, math expressions, and even numbers in general. Plus, it's really hard (usually), tiring, and takes a while (usually).

I like debating lots, but based off the fact that this is a website for young authors and people who like to read, I really don't think anyone will chose math. But we can all just tell the world why reading/writing is awesome if nobody chooses math. I'll post my arguments later, don't have time tonight.

I can argue for math if you want, but it won't be worthwhile because EVERYONE will choose Math. Maybe we could do a different topic?
(February 20, 2015 - 10:23 am)
YES!! Choose a different topic. I only chose that one for instance and apparently "bottom" doesn't like it. =P
(February 20, 2015 - 12:35 pm)
Oh, and I want to hear your opinion on math anyway.
(February 20, 2015 - 1:03 pm)
OH, so sorry 'bottom', didn't see your post.

Without Math :
~ NO NUMBERS. This means, everything would be very vague. It won't be 3:05 and 45 seconds, it would be somewhere in the afternoon. No page numbers. No "there's eight apples" just, "some apple". Everything would be very vague.
~ Without numbers, there wouldn't just be no way to measure anything, there would be no way to cut up anything. You could divide, add and minus very vaguely, but no way to cut up eight apples fairly between two people. Therefore, everyone would become angry because things would not be fair.
~ Without numbers, no computers. (And probabaly a lot less other technology, because statistics and graphs are used to figure out lots of tech stuff.) Numbers are used to represent letters, symbols, etc. (See Haxadecimal Wikipedia if you don't believe me.) Without technology, the world wouldn't be so connected, which would mean there may be more wars.
~ Math is very important in Science. If there isn't Science, then, there would be no vaccines, no medicines. We would have Black Death, Influenza, etc. AND NO PROTECTION. Also we would not have any way to predict weather, as most weather-reading machines use math, so if there were any hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, we wouldn't have any warning.
I'll bet there's a whole lot more, but I have to go. Anyway, it's either a world without the fun and magic of stories or a world full of arguments, without precision about how much stuff you have, without technology, with problems about Black Death, Cancer, Influenza, Flu, The Common Cold, Ebola, ect. A world where you never know when a hurricane can strike, and when it strikes, there's no tech to call for help with.

Oh, yes! A debate!
I don't know which to choose... *goes and gets a hat to pick out of*
All right, I picked... Reading/Writing!!!
-When you are able to read, you can avoid boredom and all that kind of junk because you can thrrow yourself into an adventure or something along those lines.
-Writing. If I had to explain why I love writing so much, it would take a century. Writing allows you to do whatever you wish to a bunch of friends you develop for yourself and whack them around as much as you would care to, but they are still always your friend.
-Creativity lows through your mind as you write. You are allowed to express yourself, where in math you just solve for x, possibly use it for a formula than move on.
-Writing leaves a shadow. There is an imprint of your story printed agaisnt your skin every time you create. Math may be useful to solv a problem, but like I said before, it doesn't have an impact on the way you think.
-It is scientifically proven that reading reduces stress. The stress math sometimes induces can be like having an elephant on your shoulders for some people.
-Reading makes you empathetic/sympathetic of others because you are exposed to a multitude of settings and problems.
-Writing is pure pleasure for many people.
Sorry, I've got to go. If I have more time later, I will try to post more.
Wow, Spammie says wbzg! I was just listening to the weather (WBZ news radio ten-thirty at CBS Boston)

The stress math sometimes induces can be like having an elephant on your shoulders for some people.
The reasons you would feel that stress:
(A You aren't studying enough. Go study and tell me how you feel about math after you've practiced math.
(B Your teacher is going to fast and not explaining things well. I suggest you get tutoring. Tutoring is a wonderful thing. Even if you ask your parents to explain it, it becomes much easier. I know from experience.
(C You actually don't feel stress about math, but said that because EVERYONE is saying that and it MUST be true.
Do you remember when you were a little kid and struggled to learn the sounds that go with letters? There's a period like that for everything. The mathematical period is just longer. High school math is much more creative, but first you have to learn the "Letters" of math : the basics, the simple formulas.
Ok, you people, please listen to me, this is kind of annoying me. You are constantly telling me, MATH IS HARD AND UNFUN, READING AND WRITING ARE FUN AND THE CENTER OF IMAGINATION. The center of imagination is not the center of the universe. Read it again. Consider the possiblity that I may, in fact, be correct. *gasps* So please, let's leave the "Is it fun" argument for a minute. Is it practical? Is it harder to live a life without books and the center of imagination, or the precison and logic of math?
BTW, I know I'll lose this argument. I'm outnumbered four to one. I know EVERYONE on here loves Reading and Writing. It is unreasonable to expect me to win this. I'm just debating because it's fun and you four have to have SOMEONE to derict your debate at. I'm just wondering how long I can put up with the onslot of arguments.
Also, I don't hate reading and writing. Please keep in mind every time I debate for something, I do not hate the other side.
I like reading, writing, and math. Math is fun if you have a good teacher to teach you the basic principles and techniques.
