I know lots of people on here are Christian, but are any of you guys Jewish or anything else? I'm really interested in different religions. I know there's a lot of similarities between Islam and Christianity. For example, all of the Bible stories are in the Quran: Noah and the ark, David and Goliath, etc.
So I thought we could talk about religions here.

From what I understand, the Shia believe that Muhammad's cousin should have been the rightful prophet. They also make up their own rules of Islam. Sunni people follow Muhammad and don't make up anything about Islam.

I was trying to answer that queston but couldn't think of the right words. Yup, u summed it up Bookbug. And also Shias believe in a lot of things that the prophet forbade us to do. There are way more Sunnis than Shias.

Teresa did a stellar job summing up the differences between denominations, but here is something of importance she didn't include: The saints. Catholics venerate the saints, Christians who have, as St. Paul wrote: "run well the good race." We believe that Mary and the saints can intercede to God for us. We do not worship the saints or pray to them, but simply ask them to intercede for us just as any Christian might ask a friend or relative to pray for them.

Good catch, Chocabookaholic! Yes, the saints are another important difference between Christian faiths, and you did a good job explaining that we do not worship the saints and Mary.

Thanks, Teresa!

We do not have these Elders you speak of. We don't have, like, CCD. I go to children's ministry until 9th grade. I think it differs in each church a little bit. My church has a contemporary service and a traditional one.

Actually most Catholic parishes have Holy Communion every day except for Good Friday.

I think of myself as Christian, but I'm not sure what to call myself. We attend a chruch that really is a mix of all religions- sometimes we have Hindu services, other times someone from COTS or something comes and talks to us. Its really nice, very non-traditional, but I really fit in there. Its just so... accepting.

Not to offend anyone but I think Islam is nothing like Christianity. I can't really be apart of this discussion without probably offending others, so I'll stay out.
But I will say, it's not about "religion" this or "religion" that. It's about the *relationship* you have with Christ.

I soooo agree about the second part! We don't have a religion, just a Best Freind that we follow. The first part, I can't really say, because I don't know a lot about Islams.

Umm,, Admins, I also said,
*Are genuinely nice people
* Are not holier-than-thou.
Soooooooo, anyway, do you know what happened to those when I first posted them?
No, I don't know. Your previous comment did not come in under my watch. However your middle one was a bit rude sounding.

Middle comment revised:
*Shouldn't be insulted by atheists for their beliefs? No offense to the many non-aggressive atheists out there.

There is SO much I want to say about Islam, but I CAN'T say it without causing tension so....yeah. Bookbug, you know what I mean.

It's fine! You can say whatever you'd like.

Attention! Muslims are not terrorists! LDS are not really different! Church of Christ Christians are nice (although I might startle some people at first)! Catholics are cool! Baptists are great!
