Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Have any of

Have any of you guys ever felt like you're just insignificant? Like sometimes you just feel that there's no purpose for you being alive? I rarely feel that way, but when I do, I just feel like giving up on life. Then you remember that God created you for a reason, and there has to be something you're meant to do in this life.

Have any of you guys ever felt this way?

I thought you were Muslim. By God did you mean Allah? I am a Christian and would like to know.

I believe this is a normal human thing. We are, staticically, insignifigant. We are just one of billions of people, one little hunk of rock in the infitinty of the universe. Gosh, that's terrifying. But it's even more terrifying to give up on life. I think about this often, how I'm a concious, living creature and someday I won't be and what will I be then? Scary.

That makes me want to do things and do things and not stop until I've done something. Ha. We all have different ways to make us try to find our purpose.

@Brookeira: Yes, I'm Muslim. We say Allah, but I also say God. They're both the same thing.

@Theo: Yes, I know what you mean. The fact that there are billions of people just sometimes terrifies me out of my mind.

I like to look at it this way.

We are all drops of water.

I am a drop of water.

You are a drop of water.

Alone, the drops don't seem to serve much purpose, do they?

But when a community, like the CB, works together, we can fill, let's say, a glass.

Take a drop out?

Not a full glass of water, anymore, huh?

Without you, we cannot possible fill the glass.

Same goes for you and the world. You complete it.

That's all there is to it.

Close to what you say. I mean, when I think of it, I'm more in awe/scared at how little I am in a world of billions. And then the universe that stretches out . . . forever, basically. And I'm less than a speck of dust on that planet, a single grain of sand on a beach. But I have no thoughts to end my life - none at all. I may be only one person on this world, but so was everyone else. So was every name in your head. George Washington. Queen Elizabeth. JK Rowling. Look what specks of dust did to this world. I can do something, speck of dust that I am.

When I feel that way, I just want to do somthing - anything. I don't want to sit here typing, or sleeping or eating or chatting. I want to go and sweat and work - doing something for someone else, or . . . I don't know. I just want to do something.

Everyone feels that way from time to time. I myself have felt that way. And yes, there are many many people out there, but that doesn't mean we're insignificant.

God made each of us with a plan and purpose for our lives. Whether that purpose shows itself in a grand obvious way, or in a small, subtle way, it all has meaning. We're not just insignificant beings with no real aim or goal in life. Each of us, from Adam and Eve, to you and I, have something only we can complete. That God made for us. He knew us before the dawn of time, and loved us and cherished us even then. And He had our whole loves mapped out even then. He doesn't let us wander aimlessly through our lives. He gave us reason in our lives. It is up to us though to grasp it by the horns and make the best of it.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

"Our fate lives within us, you only have to be brave enough to see it." ~ Merida, Brave

@Nora the Singer: Thanks for those encouraging words, Nora!

@BHR: Yes, you basically summed it up. I do believe that God planned for every one of us something special or amazing that we accomplish. I don't care how bad a person is, he/she will make a difference, even if it's tiny.

Everyone feels like that ! I do , all the time .

Here's some Bible verses for anybody who's feeling down about themselves.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

1 Peter 2:9 - But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him
who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that for those who love God all things work together
for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Colossians 1:16 - For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all
things were created through him and for him.

Ephesians 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20 - Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within
you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought
with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Romans 8: 37 - No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us.
