School Situation

School Situation

I've noticed that many people are reponding with similar questions to the Thread about school and homeschooling, so I will answer questions and try to explain here:

1) I cannot homeschool. Even though I desperately want to, there are about three main reasons why I cannot.

1a. I cannot be home all day. I would drive my Mum crazy.

1b. My parents are worried about social interactions. Hah

1c. I just can't.

I understand why, so I'm sort of done with it.

2) School s terrible because I am gifted.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you all for showing me so much support!

1. I'm a girl.

2. I just think that home schooling is not wonderful. It's good for some people, but frankly, over rated.

I always wondered how you manage to read a person's face. It's amazing.

Gee, not very gifted myself. Got Bs and As  pretty much all the time. And to confess, I can be a bit, just a bit, jealous of Squeak.

Okay, okay. I'm kinda gifted. Programming is easy for me. I love it. It's just that my memory... Bleh. Don't even want to talk about.

Hey, SE, have you considered taking an advanced course online on your own time? There's plenty of websites that allow you to access college courses and lectures online, and to learn various skills. My parents are dead-set against my being home/unschooled too, so I tried taking a DuoLingo course in Italian over the summer. I had to abandon it for work camp and forgot most of what I know, but I think I made some progress :)

I'm a freshman (ninth grade) in high school, but I'm supposed to be in eighth grade. I went to kindergarten early, so I skipped a year of preschool because apparently I was this genius litte kid or something (only slightly exaggerated). So I turned 14 in September, which makes me one of the youngest in my entire school. It's a good thing, though - high school is so much more fun than middle school! At least, my high school is. It's for performing arts, so there are kids breaking out into song, dancing in the hallway, and ukelele and bongos playing all day. I swear, it's like a musical.

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, which stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I'm basically just horrible at focusing, which makes it more difficult for me to maintain straight A's in school. I'll talk to my friends about a test coming up, and they'll be like, "Oh, yeah, I should study for that," when I've been working nonstop like crazy for the past week to make sure I know the material. And then I'll get an A from hard work and they'll get an A just like that. It's pretty annoying.

Thankfully, I'm taking some medication for that, and it's been helping.

But yup, that's my school sitch (Kim Possible reference).

(Sorry, I tend to ramble a lot and I'm about to leave school so I won't have time to edit this.)

I guess you could say I'm gifted. I don't see myself as gifted, but when I used to go to school, I was labeled as that. I left school in fifth grade. I unschooled for sixth and seventh grades, then skipped eighth grade, so now I'm in ninth. I'm getting all A's so far, which is pretty good. i'm thinking aobut taking some college classes soon.

@Nora the Singer:

I don't believe in diagnosises like ADHD. When public schools label kids with that, it's because they can't handle a kid with a different learning style. Which, I mean, you can't blame them. With 30+ kids to teach, they won't be able to teach that kind of kid. So, Nora, I don't think you have ADHD. You just have a unique learning style. If you homeschooled, your curriculum could be tailored to suit your needs, and you'd do great!

I understand that you don't like the idea of the label "ADHD," but that's just what I have, and I'm okay with that! Just because I have a focus issue doesn't mean I learn differently from anyone else. It's just a bit harder for me, that's all. Like I said before, I'm taking medication, which is helping. And I love my school! It's really not like any high school. I'm in very small classes, especially my AP classes, and my professors are really helpful. I promise you, I'M OKAY! I know you're trying to help, and it's not like I don't appreciate it, because I totally do! It's just that I kind of want to just do what my doctor says to do, you know? Thank you though! =)

Okay, I must admit, am, slightly gifted, however, only in a
few subjects, for instance, I can spot any flat note, I am reading,
about, sixth grade level, and I can remember History like that *snaps*.
However, I'm bad at directions, faces (all but History faces, weird,
right?), etc, I think it has to do with, my mom has, Dyslexia, she has
the direction kind, when she walks up the stairs, she can't tell if her
bedroom is right, or left. Also, my brother, he has Aspergers, so, yeah.

I don't have a lotta time right now, so,

Et maintenant, au revoir, and yes, I do speak French, <3

Have you been tested? Because being a bit abov gradlevel doesn't neccsarily mean you are gifted. And I'm pretty sure music notes aren't a sign of being gifted.

I'd like to point out that that's a spelling mistake, not a grammar mistake.
