Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Debate clubN

Debate club

Nora's and Dragon Girl's debate clubs died, so I'll start a new one. The only rules are that there is no judging, and you have to respect other members.

Here's the first debate topic: homeschool vs. public school.

Have fun!

I think illegal immigrants should go back where they came from. If they're not going to earn their right to be here, then they don't deserve it.

I am not for illegal immigrants. That's my side.

I disagree with them. When they sneak over here, they're using tax money paid by people who earned their place here. If they're unallowed to come here, there has to be a good reason for it. Why should they get to use up our money and resources when they don't deserve it?

Okay, time to revive this thread. The new debate topic is...(drum roll, please)

E-BOOKS VS. REGULAR BOOKS!!!!!

I choose regular books.

Good topic, Bookbug. I choose regular books, too. Nothing beats the feel of the pages and turning them. I love old, used books, and feel connected to all who have read it before me. It's so easy to flip back and forth to check names, the unfolding of events, etc.

REGULAR! E-books on Kindle are SLIGHTLY better than those TERRIBLE books that you download on your computer from Gutenburg or other websites. The pages are so wide it hurts your eyes to even TRY to read them, and forget about bookmarking!

I choose paper books.

Paper books, DEFINITELY. I love the feel of the pages, the feel of the book in my hands, the black printed words against the creamy white paper.

E-books just have very little value to them in my opinion. So maybe they're easier to read at night. I myself love to curl up under the sheets with a light to read! And maybe you can have more books with you with an e-reader, but that's why I always carry bigger bags to be able to keep more books with me, and anyway, I like to see other people carry books around. Plus, when you carry books, people can actually see what you're reading, and vice versa, which gives me ideas for more books to read.

I honestly can't really stand reading from an e-reader. I've done it, but only when I absolutely can't get a hold of a book any other way.

Regular books, though I can see a time and a place for e-books- aka, traveling. Totally wish I had a kindle for that, so I didn't have to lug around a super-heavy backpack:)

I love regular books for the personality they have. You can pick up a used book, and you'll find traces of the previous owner: perhaps they've left a book mark, circled a favorite sentence or even scrawled their name in the endjacket. It's like an art form.

I also love how cozy they are, with e-books, you really can't burrow under the covers and get the same spooky feel out of Harry Potter when you're reading of an electronic. They are devoid of feeling, while books, they're filled with sentiment.
