I made it!!!

Two months ago, I started Shotokan karate, as some of you might know. I had past training in Tae Kwon Do, and that kind of messed with this new martial art, because although there are some similarities in the two, there are differences in stances, and a certain one in Shotokan always turned out to be too long for me, because of the muscle memory I had from Tae Kwon Do. But because belt tests came rarely (twice a year, roughly), Sensei urged me to come to class as much as possible, so I could test in the next belt test, which was two months away. I came thrice a week, for two months. Besides the muscle memorry issue, there were things that I struggled at and new things for me to do. But after two months of work, I got my kata down (A pretend fight that has certain movements and punches, blocks, etc. Every belt has one, and the black belt has two, but you'd only test for one.) and my basics and sparring (No, not free sparring. For my belt, we count and are told exactly what to do.) were good. Sensei was sure that I could pass the test, and I felt confident. 

Today was the belt test. I and four others were testing, and there were about eight other pairs of eyes on us besides the judges' and each other's. I was the only one testing for yellow belt, and therefore tested alone. The others were divided into groups of two. And, I see places where I made mistakes or could have done better. I see those places where I really needed to work on something. But, after all of the work, I passed! I managed to get an A (the highest being an A+ and the lowest passing score a C+)! I am so happy that I was able to get this, and am eager for the future of my studies in karate! (Gosh, that last sentence sounded stiff) Let me put it this way: I am just so excited right now and really enjoy doing karate!

I KNEW IT I TOLD YOU COULD DO IT!!! Congratulations!!!! *huggles* I'm so glad that you were able to move up! Now that you're in the next belt level, you'll be able to focus on the things that you had trouble with, along with learning it in more advanced moves. Plus, you'll have a lot more time. But for now, just celebrate! I'm so happy for you!

I hope I do as well as you. I recantly quit competitive gymnastics, (artistic, the kind with bar and beam) but I hope to start rhythmic gymnastics soon. Good luck to you, yellow colored True-ninja!

Thanks everybody! The past few classes as a yellow belt have been really fun. and now I'm not necessarily the last in line! Some new frustrations, as always. though. But it's really fun!

@ Little Sister: I like that. Yellow colored True-ninja. ;) I hope you can start rhythmic gymnastics soon! 

@ Book Wizard; XD That cracked me up. But, no, I wouldn't use them on you. For one, I why ever would I? For the second, if I do, and word gets back to Sensei, then I'll loose my rank. So I can't use it on my sister when I'm mad with her. 

@ Captain Read: That's great! What belt did you get up to?
