Chatterbox: Down to Earth
SCAIs anyone
SCA
Is anyone here in the SCA? It's a giant medieval re-enactment thing. I went to a kingdom event (I live in the kingdom of Gleann Abhann) and I'll just sum it up.
Fencing matches:
(Sword clash, parry, strike, lunge.)
Me: I hast defeated thee!
Court:
Herald: Let it be known that Maurin Ui Ruiarc has been raised to the order of the silver laurel.
Herald: ALL!
Crowd: HAIL!
Herald: ALL!
Crowd: HAIL!
Herald: ALL!
Crowd: HAIL!
Feast:
Me: I'm stuffed.
Other ppl: Yeah.
Mom: Only three more courses.........
Me and other ppl: (grooooaan)

So, yeah. Your character has to be historically accurate, and can't be a particular person from that century. We do 475 bc to 1600 ad. I'm Aibhilhin Ni Ruiarc, an Irish herbalist whose parents were killed by vikings. I grew up in a monestary and learned herbalist methods. I can also cross stitch, fence, and dance. I just think SCA is reall fun!

THAT SOUNDS AWESOME! I'm not sure if there's anything like that near me, although I think I've heard of this before and there is a kingdom in my area...

There are kingdoms all over America. You should join! I can send you the rules.

The Society for Creative Anachronism? Of course I'd like to join! Funny coincidence, I was talking about it with my mom just recently!

I recently just heard about it too! Just shows that everything in the universe is magically (or divinely) connected. I watched this documentary callled "Reclaiming the Blade" (which happened to feature about half of the Lord of the Rings cast) which was all about bringing the culture of the sword back into modern day through the sport of fencing and the SCA. It sounded really cool.

Just looked on the SCA website, and apparently I live in Aethelmearc!

I live in the Barony of Atenveldt, it seems.
This whole thing looks really cool. I LOVE the names. By the way, does a woman become a queen by trial by combat, or is it only the guys who fight for the crown?

Kings and Queens are elected usually. There is a prince and princess, and they become king and queen after a while.
