Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Happy 4th of

Happy 4th of July!!!

Independence Day is probably one of my favorite holidays. I'm so proud of this country, our forefathers and founders, our soldiers, of my liberty and my freedom, of this "land of the free and home of the brave". I pray that we will always be "One nation under God".

So how is everyone's Indendence Day going? Y'all (Admins included) got any special plans? My family is going to go see the local fireworks, probably do some sparklers and poppers, eat pound cake with whip cream, strawberries, and blue berries made to look like a flag, then watch a patriotic movie like Independence Day.

Hope y'all have a blessed and fun day! God bless the USA.

I just got back from a neighbor's picnic in the country for a quick check of Chatterbox, then a change of clothes and on to an orchestra concert in a little country town, followed by fireworks over the  canal. Busy celebratory day!

Happy Fourth to you, too!

My family had a (small) cookout for lunch in our front yard, though a few of us ate inside because we wanted to be alone (from the flies, not from human company). We had hot dogs and s'mores, and just finished making some ice cream with one of those old hand crank ice cream makers. Soon, we'll have dinner and go downtown and see the fireworks!

top!

And the fireworks were amazing! We went to the park to see them. They shot beautiful ones. At the end, they shot three at at once, and everyone was surprised, because they usually have a grand finale. When some people stood up to leave, somone said, "Hey! Look!" So we looked, and there was an amazing grand finale!!!

I wore an ironic shirt. ouo I really, really should NOT be proud of that, but I am. "What was so ironic about this shirt?" you ask. Are you sure you're ready for it? It was fantastically ironic. Okay, I'll tell you. I...wore a shirt...that said "United Kingdom" on it!!!!!!! And my sister didn't even get it; she was just like "Oh...at least you're wearing the colors, I guess." But my brother, he understood it. He saw my shirt and he just mutely fist-bumped me. HAHAHHAHAHHAH

And then my dad saw it and he was like "Oh, Maggie...." But really, it was fantastic. Irony = life.

I went to the pool with my brother for like an hour, and then my graandparents came over and had dinner with us. I wouldn't shut up about my shirt. They were kind of mad about that.

I was at a camp on the Fourth... they gave us popsicles. That was about it. There weren't very many fireworks, but someone let off a ridiculously large amount the Saturday before that.

My dad went to a Buddhist festival today, and it's been going on for the past few days. People were setting off fireworks there on July 4th and someone fired a gun in celebration (like, into the air) and it hit someone and that person is paralyzed now...

My dad said the festival was cool. It was because a temple got opened there. He wanted me to go, but I was working on stuff. It's a good thing I didn't go, though, because I'd have been allergic to all the food probably and it was like 90 degrees out. I would have got heat stroke.

(Why is Red's birthday before yours?)

Short answer: Because I don't know how to classify Red's "birth", and I don't have a clue when it was. I forgot. So we picked a random date to be his birthday. July 5 is a rather nice day, is it not?

I never knew you could have so much fun in an overgrown empty field. A lot of people turned out to see the fireworks. Someone who had the thought to bring a weedwacker offered to clear out the area we were sitting, we shared some of our sparklers with a kid sitting near us, and someone else shared cookies and rice crispy treats. I haven't had a forth of July like this in a LONG time. (Though in defence of that, we usually get out of state fireworks and have a blast!) Though we've been celebrating throughout the weekend with more sparklers and poppers and a cookout.

In the morning my family went to a place where we got lunch and did an egg toss and pie-eating contest and tradtional 4th stuff. In the afternoon I went to a block party with my friends where we drank soda and ate chips and played with photo editing and were excessively loud. My parents picked me up later that night and we went to see fireworks. That was it.

Apparently at my girlfriend's ballet camp they forced everyone to wear red, white, or blue leotards. She thought it was really stupid. That's the most interesting thing I can think of off the top of my head.

We normally have a block party in my neighborhood on the third and a parade on the morning of the fourth but they moved it to the fifth this year because it was supposed to rain.  It didn't rain until the afternoon of the fourth.  On the fourth, we went over to my cousins' house in the afternoon for their yearly pool party.  Though it was raining the whole time, we still got to swim because there was no lightning.  The pool was warmer than the air, but I got out because the rain was freezing.  It was my first time bringing my boyfriend to the fourth.  It went pretty well.  I think my family likes him.  He sadly couldn't go in the pool though because on top of having two perforated eardrums, he was in the emergency room on Monday and was still healing.  On the fifth, I had to run parade registration because my mother is in charge of the parade but had to work.  It went well.  The parade was a success.  Then we had the block party.  The highlight of it for me was being able to hold a bunny at the petting zoo.  I like bunnies.:3  Then, my boyfriend came over and my family drove down to a different block party that my cousins were at.  My cousins combined their fireworks with those of other peoples' at the block party so we had an almost professional level fireworks show.  I may have gotten a fireworks kiss or two in with my boyfriend.

Speaking of my boyfriend, he is currently at Berklee College for a weeklong guitar masterclass.  I'm so proud.
