Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Hi, guys! Did
Hi, guys! Did you know that I got published once? Last year, my library had a jounral with the theme "Beneath the Surface". I submitted a poem called "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed an Ant." I almost fainted when I got a call saying I'd be published! Did anyone else here get published?

A story in Stone Soup Magazine. I've sent stories to a few other mags, too, and keeping my fingers permanently crossed that I'll get another publication! I've also entered the Cricket story contest. Has anyone else around here? When I saw the theme was "dragons" I couldn't resist.

You got published in Stone Soup? Lucky! What was the title of your story? I'm trying to get published in Stone Soup, but no luck I guess.

@Everinne
I entered the dragon story contest! When do you think I will get a reply?
We don't send contest replies out until the layout for the issue in which the winning entries and names appear is finalized. For dragon stories that's the October issue. I believe the March contest replies have just been mailed, so it may be 8 weeks or so. I'm sorry it takes so long!

I got my letter published in the Cricket, and the Admins passed along my book review of What Katy Did and was published! Though, no stories yet, but not for lack of trying. I'm still trying.
@ Everinne: I entered the story contest! I think this one came out really well (I write terrible short stories), so fingers crossed.

I've had some of my poems published before and it was really exciting when they were published!
I also entered the dragon story contest. Mine probably doesn't include enough dragons though. I need about seven more, but it seems to be too late for that.

I've self-published my novel for fun (it's on Amazon), and have had my artwork in Spider, and a poem and my name (honorable mention) in Cricket.
@ Everinne&BHR I've entered the dragon story contest, too. I really liked this theme, and had fun writing it. Like you, Everinne, I couldn't help myself.

I've been published in Cricket multiple times, the local Stanford Anthology for Youth twice, and the Bluefire literary journal once. It's exciting every time. I've submitted two or three times to Stone Soup but never been published . . . I'll have to try again, I'll be too old soon D:

Here's my poem that got published:
There was an old lady who
swallowed an ant.
I don’t know why she swallowed
the ant.
Perhaps her food was scant.
There was an old lad who
swallowed a mole.
She was on a roll when she
swallowed the mole.
She swallowed the mole to catch
the ant.
I don’t know why she swallowed
the ant.
Perhaps her food was scant.
There was an old lady who
swallowed a carrot.
She had to ferret out that
carrot.
She swallowed the carrot to feed
the mole.
She swallowed the mole to catch
the ant.
I don’t know why she swallowed
the ant.
Perhaps her food was scant.
There was an old lady who
swallowed some dirt.
It didn’t even hurt to swallow
the dirt.
She swallowed the dirt to season
the carrot.
She swallowed the carrot to feed
the mole.
She swallowed the mole to catch
the ant.
I don’t know why she swallowed
the ant.
Perhaps her food was scant.
When she swallowed the dirt it didn’t
take long to learn
that she had accidentally
swallowed a worm.
So she swallowed another mole,
but that had its toll.
Her stomach began to grow and
shake to and fro.
There were certainly no maybes;
the moles inside where having babies!

Neither Ruby or I has ever been published, but that doesn't really bother us. Neither of us is anywhere good enough for publishing, but we write to entertain. If our jokes can make you laugh, it's good enough. That's my philosophy right there.
Great job on getting publishd, everyone!

@ Bookbug:
I would love to tell you the title of the story I sent to Stone Soup, but since my full name and picture are obviously attached, I don't think I should.
Your "Old Lady Who Swallowed an Ant" is pretty funny actually!

@Everinne:
Oh, that's okay. It took me forever to come up with my idea for the poem. I thought, well, there are so many twists on the original poems that have been turned to books, so why not make my own?
