The School System
Chatterbox: Down to Earth
The School System
The School System (and Why I Hate It)
Common Core: The Common Core standards don't really fit with how I, as an individual, learn. They're completely nonsensical. Seriously, mixing math and language arts? That doesn't work.
Teachers: My teachers are complete idiots. They don't allow us to have opinions, and some teachers discriminate against students because of their ientities. That really could get them fired. (Right?)
Discipline and Punishment: School discipline is very strange. For example, if a student gets in a physical fight with another student they get like 3 days suspension, but if one student verbally harasses another it's rare for the student to even get ISS.
Basically, I hate school.

Oh goodness, I am seriously having to bite my tongue. I could go on a serious rant about Common Core. I am STRONGLY opinionated in that area. Basically, I HATE Common Core, cause it could easily branch out onto homeschoolers, which is a real fear. HSLDA is coming out with a film about it tomorrow. Just, yeah, I am not a Common Core supporter.
Yes, discrimination could likely get them fired. I've seen hands on how some teachers discriminate against Christians, or homeschoolers, and it's terrible. Now that's just one type of discrimination, but yeah, most discrimination I think teachers should be fired for.
Suspension for physical violence, I get. But nothing for verbal assault is just wrong. It's what makes kids think they can get away with everything short of outright assault. The things that are said in schools is terrible, and something needs to be done about it.
I'm really sorry for you, Maggie. Keep your head up, and do your best. You are in my prayers.

Thank you.

I think everything is AWFUL. Public schools are the most messed up thing on the planet. In the universe. In the HISTORY of the universe. Including the reign of Queen Ranavalona the First.

Yeah, public school sucks, but when we sent my sister to private school she turned into even more of a racist brat. (Of course, that's probably just her.)

YOU TOOK THE WORDS OUT OF MY MOUTH!

Ugh, don't get me started on schools. Our town school is supposed to be a really good school and yet I see SOO many faults in it.
1. Common Core- aka killing fun. WHY DO KIDS NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DISSECT WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I had had to sit through that, I would have died. It takes all the fun out of learning- no wonder many kids hate reading.
2. Excerise. Some school have programs where every kid goes to the gym EVERY day and moves around. The kids then have better attention spans and learn more. Well, duh, why doesn't EVERY school do that- I know I can't focus if I haven't be outside or moving around all day.
3. The color scheme. White and blue here. In art, my teacher told us many jails and insane homes have plenty of blue green and white, because its calming. What she didn't realize was that THE WHOLE SCHOOL IS WHITE WALLED AND BLUE FLOORED- yeah, a jail. THERE IS NOO FUN IN THE COLOR SCHEME. Be creative people. Yellow, reds, greens- kids love brightness.
4. Teachers. Everyone either hates the teacher, or loves them. Personally, I've had only great teachers, so I really can't rant on this subject.
Gosh, I know there's more. I'll be coming back to this thread ( and if I went off on anything that makes someone feel bad, please tell me and I'll apologize)

Ohhhhh, don't even get me started on schools. I have read the Teenage Liberation Handbook cover-to-cover five times and tons of books similar to it. My friends and I make websites with forums where we discuss everything wrong with our school. I am awaiting the day when my parents get out of bed and magically say, "You know what, WritingWarrior? We were wrong. The school system is awful beyond our wildest dreams. Save yourself. Leave today."
Common Core: *vomits* *vomits again* *screams to the wind* BLAKERJLKNEIOJ! School this year has been pretty dull, but at least I had fiction novels in English and some fun projects. If we get common core, I can kiss those goodbye and start analyzing texts, probably. Plus I've read this will lead to some pretty awful things for disabled students.
Teachers: I have some good teachers. The rest are terrible.
-My Latin teacher has switched the dates of quizzes without telling us before, and he's so creepy that most of my Latin I class were II dropouts trying to avoid him.
-My web design teacher doesn't even teach--he just makes videos and expects us to do two photoshop projects (a program everyone except the students he favors is unfamilar with) every day.
-My gym teacher...well, I'm not sure if I should go there. She uses zero logic, made us log what we ate for two days and then told the class we would "die before age 20" if we kept eating what we did, and makes disparaging remarks to our class all the time. I have to do a twenty-page portfolio for her class and take a "gym exam".
-My geometry teacher teaches well one-on-one, but does badly during class.
-My science teacher blows through whole units in a day and expects us to understand it and take a quiz the next day. She got better, though. Except now her boring student teacher has taken her place.
Standardized Testing: No. Just no. I even wrote a whole essay for class on why I disagree with this. This would exceed the word limit.
Stress: I'm convinced I'm developing anxiety just based on my work load over the last two years.
Mass Conformity: Enough said.
Newspaper/Announcements: Oh sure, our school covers news. If your idea of news is articles about "Is Santa Real?", flash mobs, and interviews only with the student elite.
Worst of all are the facts that students are treated as unintelligent (unless, of course, you're in I/B or gifted, which makes you smarter or more respected than everyone else in their eyes) and given no opportunities to make real decisions, save for "what color should our class wear for the pep rally?" And since Student Council is all about popularity, there's no way I (or most of the school) could get on there and actually change some things.

The Teenage Liberation Handbook! It's a good book and includes stuff like how to convince your parents to take you out of school, reasons why school is bad. I've never actually used the convince-ing suggestions because I am already homeschooled, but there're a lot of good ideas and ways to learn without school. It's awesome-- I'm currently rereading it.

READ THE TEENAGE LIBERATION HANDBOOK!!!
(April 25, 2014 - 6:42 pm)
Is it non-fiction?
(April 30, 2014 - 8:16 am)
YES!!! It contains almost every known reason not to go to school, and how to live without it.

I'm currently being homeschooled, but all my other siblings (I have 3 sisters) go to public school. My parents have looked at some of the Common Core questions. To be honest, my parents are really against the government interfering so much with schools, so they aren't a huge fan of the whole Common Core thing... okay, it disgusts them. Now, I haven't actually done any of the tests or whatever, but from what I've seen, alot of the questions are telling you to circle the words that need capitalized (and stuff like that), but the statement says things like: "The president has the power to..." My parents think that it's the government's way of teaching kids to rely more on the government to fix your problems, rather than working to provide for yourself.
This may be extreme, but for the most part I agree with them. The whole Common Core situation seems alittle invasive of the government, in my opinion.
I'm not saying you have to agree with me. This is just what I think.

Yep, I totally agree. I refused the ELA and Math State tests, the first time, ELA, being 7 people refusing, and the second, Math, being 20. Big difference, but not as much as compared to other districts in NY. (p.s. You live in Lancaster?! I've been there twice! :D Maybe I passed you haha)

Yeah, I live in a brick house that they used to use as a school back in, like, 1940. It's pretty cool, except that in the winter it gets really cold.
