History Day

Has anyone every participated in History Day? Was it your state's competition or NHD?? DId you enjoy it? What was you project?

I've done it for (almost) three years--only statewide, though. I've always done websites, the last two years with a partner, this year without. I LOVE it!!!!

I've heard about History Day! I've always been interested in trying it, but I'm just so busy. I don't know a whole lot about it, so what do you do?

I love history!  But like you, I don't really ever seem to have enough time.  I'll probably do it in high school with the AP history class that I plan on getting into.

I did History day last year with my friend Supi and his little brother. We made a documentary on the Manhattan Project. It was really fun, but sometimes really... not. Oh, eleven page bibliography, I'm looking at you. We won regionals but didn't place in state.

My high school doesn't have History Day but I've been studying for JV History Bowl. Unfortunatly, some idiotic group members flaked out last minute before the regionals so we didn't have enough people to go and thus I won't compete this year.

I've never heard of History Day before. What is it like?

Basically, there's this theme (something like Rights and Responsiblilities) and you create a project on any hisotircal event that connects to that theme. You can create anything from a performance to a website. You then compete angainst people who (a) are in your age category (junior or Senior) (b) in your project type and (c) are doing the same type of project as you. Example: I was in the Junior Individual Website category this year.

So you go to the state cometition and talk to the judges and wait FOREVER (like 4 hours) for the awards ceremony and if you won 1st or 2nd with a Superior or Excellent rating you can go to national History Day.

I've alwasy qualified for NHD, but never gone.

Anyways, I hope that helps(sorry its a bit long)!! If you want to learn more about your states competion, just type in your state name and hisotry day.
