Chatterbox: Down to Earth
So, careers...
So, careers...
Here you can talk about what you want to be when you're older. Why you want to, why you're thinking about it, what else interests you, etc.
I'll start off:
Hmm, well I definitely want to be an author and part-time artist. I'm also thinking about being an ornithologist which sounds pretty cool (:
Does this idea sound good? Or do most people have no idea what they want to do?

I really want to be an attorney/lawyer like my dad. He's a labor and employment lawyer. I also would like to be a part-time writer, like where I write books in my free time. I also really like debating and things like that. Today in English, we had to read narratives out loud to the class (diary entries), and I was the dirty red sweater that no one liked. I put on a big show and acted all mad. Later, the teacher told me that I should do Forensics.

I want to be a cartoonist (no surprise there) but I'm worried I won't have what it takes or any amount chance that I'll still be able to make a living off of comics when I'm older will be slim. I might also want to be a scientist, but I'm not sure. My mom is always trying to get me excited for math, but I'm never very excited about math.
The problem with my comics (right now at least) is that they are too much like manga to be called "comics" but too little like manga to be called "manga." So while some of my friends refer to DEUS EX MACHINA (my comic) as "Manga" I prefer "Comics." My characters don't really look too much like manga characters, so it worries me that they call it manga. Esspecially since the last thing (well, not last, but most definitly not first) thing I want to be when I grow up is a mangaka.
I could always be a writer or an illustrator. Recently I've been more intrested in art than word, so perhaps I'll be an artist. Still, I'm worried about that too. People are worried about newspapers in the future, but as long as they go ditial, it'll be alright. It seems like knowing how to do art on a computer is a better lifetime skill than learning how to do art on paper or canvas.
The problem is, I feel like I'm a decade or two behind. Sure, I'll catch up, but when I'm buying screen tones, others are just applying tones with their computer (can you even do that? I think I read about a program that allowed you to). I actually quite like applying screen tones by hand, because once you've finished, it looks really awesome. So perhaps on day I'll try computer screen tones and fall in love. But for right now I'm not. Perhaps one day I'll have a multiple panel comic published--maybe even multiple pages. But not yet. I'm 13. I still have a lot to achieve, and I have a lot of time to achieve it.
In short, I think I want to be a comic artist.

Writing comic books sounds neat, Theo! I think I'd like to be a writer/illustrator of my own books, but I might like computer programming if I can get up to speed with all the new technologies, or going into the film industry, which would be really neat!
P.S. What's a screen tone?

You know the gray parts of comics that are like shading and made of little dots? Those are screen tones.

I want to act and write, and also fly airplanes, possibly in the Air Force (or RAF, as I plan to go to Britain for acting school).
What is an ornithologist? It sounds intresting!!!
(February 5, 2014 - 7:41 pm)
An ornithologist is someone who studies birds. I really want to do that!! Oh I have my test to get into Earth Science today! Wish me luck :)
(February 6, 2014 - 7:05 am)
Good luck, Moss!!!!!!! Birds are my favorite animal, and ornithology is probably something else I'm considering for spare time hobbies. Science is AWESOME! Keep on rockin!

Well... Author, Artist, Self-Sustained Farmer, Ornithologist, Pre-school teacher, Bakery owner... there are other things I've considered but I can't think of any more right now.
Moss, I have been considering going into the ornithology field since 2011, when did you first become interested in birds?
(February 6, 2014 - 6:48 pm)
I have to say probably... 2011/2012. I got this bird's of North America book from Barnes & Noble and became obsessed (ok maybe that's not the right word) I loved going out in the winter looking at the birds at our bird feeder like red-bellied woodpeckers, dark-eyed juncos, black-capped chickadees, mourning doves, etc. (I need to fill up the feeder; we haven't done it since spring!) And the Eagle Fest also got me even more interesting. It's in Teatown, New York and the people there show you all different types of hawks, falcons, eagles, and owls. I love the saw-whet owl especially (: And I took the Earth Science test yesterday. It was mostly easy, the scientific method and temperature and different shells. I hope I get into it, because in high school you can take an extra science class because of Earth Science. Maybe something close to ornithology...

I would like to work for a magazine when I'm older, hopefully a creative writing magazine, like Cicada. And maybe I would possibly publish a book on the side but I really have to work on my writing...
We have a class where we have to do an internship this year. I wanted to get one at a magazine but (1) they don't have any creative writing magazines around here and (2) the other magazines didn't except me because of time issues or they just didn't have a place. So I'm going to do my internship at our local library. I'm actually sort of excited; I love libraries and books so I think it'll actually be pretty fun.
The Spam Guy says "ivyy". Ivy? Sounds like he's calling for you! :)

When I come of age, I want to write books, pet unicorns, and live in a secluded forest.
(February 7, 2014 - 1:24 pm)
I'm graduating at 16 , getting a job & living at home until 18 , then I'm going to an Ivy Leauge school and getting a Bachelor's in business .. I was thinking something along the lines of a major in Fashion ... It's something I'm passionate about !
I also want to do something for the Kingdom .. not sure what though ! Everyone says I'm called to preach & to lead worship .. So I'm still praying about direction !
(February 11, 2014 - 5:00 pm)
I'd also like maybe to go into law .. I mean they don't seem to use a lot of math ( my weakest point ) .. That's definitely a consideration !

I want to be an Imagineer. Those are the engineers that work for Disney to build the rides at the parks. I love Disney & engineering, specifically concerning things with moving parts (my favorite online game used to be one on the Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman website where you could build roller coasters) so I think it would be a good job for me.
I would love to be a writer on the side.
My dream school to achieve all this is MIT. I've looked into the programs they offer, and I think I'd like to get a master's in mechanical engineering & a bachelor's in creative writing. I think the creative writing will give me an edge in becoming an Imagineer because I don't think many engineers will have that but it will be useful at Disney.`
