Braces
Does anyone here have braces? I had four braces on my front teeth in 3rd grade, a retainer in fourth, and braces on my top and bottom teeth from fifth grade until now. I just got them off today! Although I just got a retainer and now I have a bit of a lisp.
I was thinking about it, and I realised that I had absolutly no idea if any of you guys had braces, so I though I'd ask.

I have braces. It's funny how I got a tightening today and now I'm on this thread! I got them this summer and will get them off the summer before I go into to high school.

Yes! I had them, and I was your classic-looking dork too. But now I'm in retainers, so I don't look quite so much like a buck tooth beaver. But I officially think that retainers are worse. Sure, you can eat whatever you like, but they're a pain to keep up with. Plus they're annoying, and vastly uncomfortable. Of course I'm used to mine now, but they're still annoying. Though hopefully soon, I'll only have to wear them at night.

Yes. I'm getting these ones off in eighth grade, I think, and then iIm getting another set in ninth grade (?) because at some point in high school I'm getting jaw surgery to fix my underbite.

I had braces from the summer before sixth grade until the summer before eighth great. They were needed because I had buck teeth and a big gap between my front two teeth. At first, they thought I would have to have surgery to remove the skin between my front two teeth but they didn't end up having to. I had braces on the top and the bottom. I also had to wear rubber bands to connect the two to correct my overbite. I did that so much I had to wear the rubber bands backwards to correct the underbite I gave myself. That was good, because if the rubber bands hadn't worked, I would have needed headgear! I also had to wear plastic chains that connected the metal on my teeth over the wire instead of single bands on each tooth at one point to move my teeth closer together.
Once I got my braces off, I got retainers. At first, I had to wear them every day and yes, I also had a lisp, too, at first. Now I also wear them at night and I have a lisp again when I wear them because I'm not used to them. A word of advice: wear your retainers! I didn't wear my bottom ones for weeks because they hurt and I had to get a replacement retainer. Luckily, my orthodontist is nice and gave it to me for free or I would be in so much trouble. However, I have one tooth that is a little behind the others, so WEAR YOUR DARN RETAINERS. (the tooth is slowly moving itself back into place)

I'm going to get braces later this year, too. I'm in mortal dread.

Braces aren't that bad, except for when they get tightened a lot. Then they hurt (duh) and it's hard to eat. Also, if you don't mind my asking, who are you and why is your name Mag Fan?

My name is Mag Fan because I LOVE Cricket-I'm a Cricket Mag fan! I'm new to Chatterbox.
In the magazine business, mag is often used in place of magazine.

Oooh headgear. I hated that. Retainers might be bad, but I can just remember headgear and none of the pain matters.

Not to make fun, but when she says she had buck teeth, she really means it!

I've got braces. Just on the top for now but I'll be getting them on the bottom.
I totally agree. I think retainers are worse than braces! Yes, the first week with braces is horrific (PAIN) but after that you get used to them. Retainers get annoying because you always have to remember to wear them, plus your mouth feels like paper in the morning.
@Theo W.- Congrats on getting your braces off! I can't wait until my whole braces process is finished but it's going to take a while...

@Elizabeth, Thanks! It does take awhile, but once it's over it will be worth it!

Back when I was nine years old, I was told that once my baby teeth all came out I would get braces. Five and a half years later, braces? Nope. Baby teeth? Still have some.

@Ruby M.- You are one lucky person. The dentist pulled my baby teeth out so that I could get braces. Lucky me. *sarcasm* You must not need braces that badly...

Don't remind me.
I may need to have 4 PERMENANT teeth extracted, and braces for TWO YEARS
I have an appointment with an orthodontist it a couple of weeks :(
