I am stuck

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I am stuck

I am stuck in a convention center, in Winston Salem NC.

What am I doing here? I am waiting for this to all end so my parents will quit photo-ing for the artists and we can go back to our hotel room and eat dinner.

So, where and what are you stuck in/doing today?

School, going insane, school, writing a novel, eating, school. A pretty boring, typical day.

I am stuck (or about to be)  studying for a science, Spanish and geometry test. It isn't too bad though because the science test is only twelve multiple choice vocabulary questions. I can use all my notes on the geometry test. The Spanish test is one I have to think harder on.

I also have a persuasive paper due Friday in English. Oh, then a playing test in band.

You have to be tested for band?! Dang.

Playing tests in band are the worst.  I always get so nervous.  Do you have to do them in front of everyone, or is it recorded?  In middle school, we did them in front of everyone else and that was really nervewracking.  We were allowed to sign up for private ones, but I never did that.  I don't know why.  Now, we have to go into a room and record it alone with a band officer, which is only slightly less nervewracking.

I am currently stuck in public high school.  I'm typing this from our foreign language computer lab.  In a few minutes, I'll go up a floor and then I'll be back, typing from a regular computer lab.

I also feel stuck in Massachusetts because I just want to go to NYC and audition for Jeopardy.:P

*sigh*

Yes, we are tested in band. I really don't like this type of a test because it's not a test you can study for. Sure, you can practice, but when the time comes for you to play it, you only get one chance and you can't go back to check/fix your work! I like  tests where you can study and memorize the facts or rules (well I don't really like them, I prefer them.)

We have to play in front of the whole band, but my teacher makes everyone bring homework and encourages us to talk. Now when have you ever heard a teacher tell you to talk?

I did well on my science vocabulary quiz, but now we have a test next Tuesday. Ugh!

I took the Spanish (1st hour) and Geometry (last hour) test today. What a great way to start and end your day! I think I did spectacular on both, but I can't wait to see the results.

During my geometry test there was one problem that made my heart drop. To be honest, the question was only worth one point, but I felt like I had to get it right. I stared at that problem for eight minutes trying to solve the problem. I could not think of a reasonable answer. I was about to write a random answer, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. (If you can't already tell, I'm sort of a perfectionist when it comes to schoolwork.) So, I stared at it some more. By then, people were starting to turn in their tests. Suddenly, this thought came to me about the Pythagorean Theorem (we were working with triangles) and I figured out a reasonable answer to put down. After the test, everyone was talking about that problem, but they all had a different answer than me! By then, I was sure I got it wrong, but then my teacher asked us what we all got. Everyone said .2, but another kid and I. We got 1.99, so a huge controversy followed. It ended up that the right answer was 1.99! I was so, so happy; that problem caused me a lot of trouble!

Today I was stuck getting an interview by my local TV station. I can't say what the story is about for privacy reasons, but the interview was not how I expected it would be. First of all, I have never done an interview on camera, so I was already nervous. Then, I couldn't get my microphone on; it took me two minutes to put in on right. Then, the reporter got the camera up and started asking me questions. I did not like the sound of my answer, especially since I had a huge pause because I couldn't put my thoughts into words. Anyways after three minutes of the interview the camera light died. The reporter had a back up one just in case this happened, but the back up didn't work either. So, she had to call one of her co-workers to bring another battery. It took her co-worker 25 minutes, so we sat there. Then, that battery didn't work. After a while, we just shone a bunch of lamps to get the light needed. I can't explain what else happened because it has to do with the story, but it airs tonight!

I bet you'll look and sound fine, Teresa. They can edit out the silences. I was interviewed on-the-spot at a skating competition last year and I'm not fast with answers. A friend saw it on TV later than evening and said I looked and sounded great. I missed it.

Oh I'm sure you did fine! I've never been on TV (and I'm quite grateful simply because I don't think I ever ever could.), but it sounds like a neat experience! Just think on the parts you know you did well, and don't worry about the parts that, well, you worry about! Think positive! Trust me, I've seen people on the news for the first time, EVERYONE struggles. Just be happy you had the chance!

A friend of one of our art directors saw the interview, Teresa!

@Admins

Really!?!?!? Neat! Do you (admins) also work with the emails sent to Cricket in addition to viewing our comments?

@BHR

Thank-you! That really helps. :)

Yes, we do.

@Admin

You were right! The reporter did a very good job on putting it all together, but I didn't like the sound of my voice or my facial expressions. It probably sounded/looked different because I was nervous, the sound over the TV and in generally, people usually say that they were worse than it looked to others. I'm glad I did it!

Congratulations! I think one's voice never sounds the same because when you speak you hear yourself through your own head. (I'm not expressing that very well, but you may be able to figure out what I'm trying to say.) The friend of one of our art directors saw the interview and emailed her. You were great!

Being brainwashed. It's actually kind of scary, my friend pointed out one of my classes revolves around changing your personality.
