Chatterbox: Down to Earth

School begins again.

School begins again.

I know it's early, but for me it isn't, since my brother starts August first, and I start August 14th. This may seem very awful; I certainly thought so; but I actually like it, because in May I'm already eager for school to end (and it ends at the end of May as opposed to June) and in August I'm eager for it to start.

Anywoo! I'll be in eighth grade :O Which means that I'll be graduating in May! I'm excited, mostly because I got school supplies and I have, um, a thing for office supplies. Seriously. I love mechanical pencils, and note cards, and binders and spiral notebooks. Plus gel pens. Gel pens are awesome.

So anyway... What's everyone's school like? What are they excited about, what are they not as excited about? Yeah, going to click submit. Too many questions.

Re: Summer homework: UGH. That must be awful. Really awful. I haven't finished a lot of my summer homework, but that's partly because my math teacher last year actually made us procrastinate. Partly it's because I'm lazy and do homework at the wrong times, though. So anyway, I also have to write two essays about books from a very limited summer reading list, and they have to be positive reviews whether or not I liked the books. And it gives you a list of reasons to pick from, and almost none of them are actually reasons I'd read a book from that list. Yours sounds worse, though, Melody.

Oh! Today I got the letter about my homeroom placement. I didn't get the teacher I preferred, but the one I have here is one I don't know much about and one of my best friends is in the homeroom too, so that's something to look forward to! I already know almost all the teachers I'm having for different subjects, except there's a bit of confusion with religion and we have a new PE teacher. That I'm grateful for, because last year's was really.darn.annoying.

My school is a small independent Catholic school that I went to because the school situation in my town was quite similar to Gollum's. I'm actually an atheist but all I've got to do is sit through religion classes (I'd rather be in literature, but it can be interesting) and a Mass every month. There's lots of other non-religious and/or non-Catholic people in my grade, too, and pretty much nobody forces their beliefs upon you. Ironically, my brother goes to a public school with all religions and at it he actually gets bugged for his lack of religion more often than I do. :/

As for activities, I'm joining the art club again, because no matter how pointless it is I like chatting with cool seventh-graders and doodling while occasionally doing projects. I'm also doing forensics (public speaking, not analysis of dead bodies) for the first time, so that should be fun (though it sounds a little scary). And yay! I get to quit swimming!

@ FantasyQuill

Maybe they just assume that you're religious because you're at that school?

@ Ima

Your school sounds really fun.

I'm switching schools this year from a private Indian school to the American embassy school here because I (like lots of my friends) was getting really bored at my old school and the teachers I got were really bad. I'm excited about the shift and we get iPads! But we have to give them back after middle school:( but that means that I'll get a Mac from school next year!

I start on August 12, but I've got placements on the 6th. I'm hoping to get into a higher level of math. Wish me luck!

Hodor!

My school starts on the 15th of August. I don't know what my schedule is yet. I don't really know what my school is like. Here is the little I know about it:

-The ground is covered in gum.

-Most of the teachers are pretty bad.

-There is so much homework it's not even funny. Hooray, IB program!

-"There are two types of freshman- the timid ones and the creepy ones. Be creepy so the older people will fear you and leave you alone." I can be creepy. That shall be easy. I'll just have to make "nee, choudai?" (hey, give me that?) my catchphrase. I am quite sure a good number of people will know what I'm talking about.

Friend wise, my closest friends are coming to this school but most of my other friends are going to other schools. The only person I really spent time with last year that is coming to my high school I don't like anymore.

Another thing I don't like about my school is that they don't offer any history classes for freshman! It is sort of ironic because ninth graders in Michigan are required to take a history MEAP.

Inside of history we are required to take a class called transitions where all you do is work on homework and plan out the next ten years of your life. I would prefer to take history.

I started school on August 5th. I am now nearly done with week 3. I am home schooled and I am in 7th grade. I was and still am excited about every subject. Thing is my school is not all in a schedule. I do a math called TabletClass but I think my mom might change what things I do for school. My favorite subject of all is writing. And my least favorite subject is P.E. Lucky for me I can listen to Air1 while I do my school work. Does anyone hear enjoy writing?
