Things we were

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Things we were

Things we were mistaken about. That's what this thread is for.

I knew practically nothing about Batman until we puchased tickets for a movie marathon of the new movies leading up to a midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises. Before my parents told me, I thought that Bruce Wayne was one of the actors who played Batman, not Batman's secret identity.

When Daffodil was little, she thought a high school was a school with high chairs. That was what she thought of whenever someone said "high school".

This is pretty stupid, but... There are these software packs you can buy called Vocaloids and they are essentially voiceboxes so you can make them sing or talk or whatever you want them to do. One Vocaloid is the Kagamine twins- Rin and Len. They have different voices, but they both come in the same box. Rin is a girl with a high pitched voice and Len is a boy with a voice that goes anywhere from sort of low to insanely high. The very first Vocaloid song I heard was called Alice of Human Sacrifice, and I thought that Rin was a boy with a high pitched voice and Len was a girl with a low pitched voice. In Alice of Human Sacrifice, Len's voice sounds really feminine, so that's how I came to that conclusion. It took me a really long time to figure out that Rin was the girl and Len was the boy.

Yeah. That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure I'll come up with more later.

This may seem a bit weird, but it is something that I was mistaken about.

Stephen. Stephenson.

These words always get me. When I was little I used to say Stephen, pronouncing the 'ph' sound as 'fff'. It is the same with Stephenson. Usually in the English language, the 'ph' makes a 'fff' sound, but apparently not in these two words. For some reason I was saying 'Stephen' to my mom one day, saying how I said above, and she said, "What? Do you mean Stephen (stee-vun)?" So, now I know that Stephen is prounounced Stee-vun, not Stee-ffan.

Teresa, I did that all the time too! It makes me wonder if there are any parents out there who want their child's name pronounced Ste-ffan, and how that would be spelled. Maybe Steffan or Stefan. I've seen the latter.

Stee-ffan Moffat. I started watching Sherlock it's hilarious. Don't talk out loud Anderson. You lower the IQ of the whole street. A Town Called Mercy got my sister mad because she didn't understand how Amy and Rory could go with the Doctor for two years and then go back to when they left. For those of you who don't know, A Town Called Mercy is a Doctor Who episode. There's only one more episode until the Ponds leave *sobs hysterically*

I know a guy named Stefan.  His name is supposed to be pronounced Stefaaaan but everybody I know pronounces it Stefin.

I once thought that fantasy and poetry were complete wastes of time. Now, I read and write fantasy and love poetry. Go figure. Perhaps my opinions would have been different if I hadn't been forced to read The Chronicles of Narnia at 7.
