Gah, DtE is dead.  So, what's on your mind?

Um..... Who?

Only yeah.  Yeah.  Sorry, it's probably my fault.  That DtE is dead, or at least comatose.  I know I've been out a lot.  I'm just insanely busy, both with being a sophomore in high school and commisioning crack!fic (Silmarilion) for my friend Elise...which is a really long story, and one that I don't feel like burdening you all with.  Because nobody here knows the Silmarillion...*sniff*

Anyway, yeah!  (Why cannot I not find anything meaningful to say?)

I'M TURNING FOURTEEN IN A MONTH! AND GETTING MY EARS PIERCED AT LONG LAST! WHOOP!

Yeah.

Can somebody tell me about the Avengers movie?  I know, I'm pathetic that I haven't seen it, but I'm kind of morbidly curious.  (Why would that be morbid?  Because 'morbid' is a word I fall back on when I have nothing better to say?)

Can somebody (preferably TNÖ) tell me about The Book of Mormon?

I'm 19 and I still don't have my ears pierced. If/when I need them for a show, I'll get them, but not before.

Also! YES! I would be happy to describe TBoM to you especially because I'm seeing it in February in Des Moines and I'm super excited and YAY!

The Book of Mormon is a Broadway show by South Park writers and the composer of Avenue Q (note: enjoyment of SP is not required for enjoyment of BoM; I hate the former and adore the latter). It follows the (mis)adventures of Elder Price (stiff, upright, legalistic, by-the-book devoted Mormon) and Elder Cunningham (who's sort-of read the Book of Mormon and likes pop culture and has a teensy problem with pathological lying), young mission partners who get sent to Uganda. Whilst there they meet the local Warlord (whose name is NSFW and certainly for the CB), the cynical, bitter villagers, and the worn-out Mormon missionaries (including the deeply-closeted Elder McKinley, who leads the Mormons in a tap-dancing number about supressing unwanted emotions). A plot full of misunderstandings, lost faith, broken rules, and the accidental creation of a whole new religion takes place. And it's hilarious and at times tear-jerking and the ending makes you want to dissolve into a big puddle of happy goo.

(Although, caveat emptor: this being a brainchild of the writers of SP and of Avenue Q, there's a LOT of swearing, presumably to contrast Elder Price's prim "gosh darn it to heck" moments.)

I would go on but I have to go to class, so more later?

I'm in politics/religion mode currently so don't ask what's on my mind right now. Or do if you want a lecture.

I could stand a lecture. (Um... not that I'm super excited about politics right now because I registered to vote for the first time a few day ago. Yay!)

Bleh, it's (mostly) gone. Who are you voting for? (I mean, I can guess. But I just want to know.)

Obama. Absolutely. I have a lot of problems with him, but I have fewer problems with Obama than I do with Romney (also the problems I have with Romney are much more important to me than the ones I have with Obama). So. Obama it is.

Wow, definitely not what I thought, then. If I could vote, I would vote for Romney.

I don't have a favorite candidate, only a preference. So I don't really have anything incredibly positive to say.

Well. I'm actually fairly conservative on a lot of issues, and there are a lot of things that I agree more with Romney than with Obama, particularly with regards to the economy and some domestic policy (though oftentimes my reasons for thinking a certain way about an issue differ greatly from his apparent motivations [gun control is a great example of this].

On the other hand, the issues I agree with Obama on are generally a lot more important to me because they have to do more with social problems and general welfare. For example, I have some problems with Obamacare but I think that, overall, it does more good than harm. I totally respect your differing opinions and I don't think any less of you for it. And I hope you feel the same way about me and my opinions.

So, overall, my decision to vote for Obama is less a matter of me thinking he's necessarily a better candidate than Romney is and more a result of my having examined my opinions and the importance of different issues to me personally, and choosing the candidate who I think has the best chance of doing what I think is right about things that I think are the most important (even though most of the campaigning on both sides has revolved around the economy more than it has on social rights).
