Chatterbox: Down to Earth

School's starting aga

School's starting again!!!!!

Yeah... On one hand, I can't wait to get my textbooks (I love textbooks! I'm really weird!) and I like school and all, and I need to be around people again, as I've been really jumpy at noises and I've been talking quite animatedly to book characters, so it will be good for me. On the other hand, I'll have to put up with people. I don't like people. At all. I mean, I have friends, but if I don't get any classes or at least have lunch with any of my friends (for the third year in row, I swear, my school is conspiring against me) I'm going to become a hermit with books. You know, that doesn't seem like an entirely bad deal. My school is just full of jerks. And the only jerk I've had to put up with this summer is Luca (one of my book characters) and I can always threaten him with water chesnuts (he has an irrational fear of water chesnuts). Oh, and there's Claire.... but I digress.

Anyhoo, the point is the first day of school is coming! Tell me all about your first day! I want to laugh! Tell me about everything that happens! And I'll hunt this post down and post about my first day too.

I can never think on how to end a post. I'm terrible at endings. Anyhoo, buh-byez.

So here's my first day of school.

Wakeup: 5:29

6:40, at school, getting stuff reaady in locker

7-7:31 In journalism, with a teacher and two students, all oblivious to the fact that there is no 0 period on the first day.

7:30- the rest of the day, helping the new girl with her locker, since our school lockers are a PAIN. She's really nice though, so I don't mind.

8:05 long boring assembly

After that (I won't give the next few times)

Going to HR, I don't think I like my HR/religion teacher. I was literallly drooping in her glass, which is strange, since it is FREEZING cold.

My other teachers were all nice, my Spanish teacher talked at hyper speed (I like that), my history teacher was sarcastic (she was really funny, and is letting us use computers (personal) for eveything which is great since I dislike paper), and the rest of my teachers look nice. After school I scrambled to see the counselor (to say hi, shes my friend), do HR cleanup for my algebra teacher, and get to robotics so I can join. After all that was done, I went home, did Robotics recruitment flyers (I do the same for Litmag) and filled out many, many syllabuses, again, I HATE paper. I also wrote notes for the first science section, and the first Spanish vocab.

That concludes my first day.

It's not so bad, Listening Daisy. Just finish all your work, try hard, and don't get involved in drama, and you'll be fine. And don't skimp on Homework! Bad idea!!! It's harder than 7th, but every grade is harder. Good luck!!

I would post my schedule . . . if I had one! Yes, except for biology (did I put zooology on the last post?), 20th-century history, all I know about are basics that pretty much every school has. And that Mom will teach me in the morning and Dad in the afternoon, I have grammar with them both (argh! one of the books are from one publisher, and the other is from another publisher! Which means that I learn one thing two different times! Don't understand? Heres an example: On Monday, in the second week of school, in Mother's class I am learning about synonyms. After many reviews, say, on Friday, in the second to last week, in Father's class, I am again learning about synonyms. Very frustrating!) and that I am also studying 20th-century history. And, to add to the already confusing schedule, I know that I have things spread out through the week, not every day history, math, grammar, lunch, science, geography, etc.

I don't start school until the Wednesday after Labor Day... I feel so bad for you guys, starting in August.  I'm going into 6th grade, and they don't give us a schedule ahead of time, they just slam it at us the first several days.  Nyarsh.  Anyway, from past years, I think I will have the following in any evil order the teacher devises:

-Rosetta Stone (Spanish, in the morning before school!  I was doing Swedish, but now they only do French or Spanish.  :()

-Math

-PBL (Stands for Project Based Learning, this new trendy thing they're adding to the curriculum.)

-Reading Workshop (They call everything "workshop" at my school.)

-Writers Workshop

-Science

-Social Studies

-Orchestra

-Chorus

-Phys. Ed. after school, maybe.

Oh, I might also be doing Band and/ or Jazz Band if my teacher decides I can play electric bass in them.  :)  No lockers this year.  Sadly.  Nyarsh.

So, overall, pretty good.  Except for the fact I have the Social Studies Teacher for a homeroom teacher... (I had a bad experience with the Social Studies Teacher last year.)

Personally, no offense to people that are homeschooled, but I would hate to be homeschooled. Yes, it's more noisy and confusing, but it's fun that way! I find it funny when the boys who THINK they are the Class Clowns (they're actually mostly pretty lame but whatever) call out and say something irrelevant. I'm used to the buzz of a homerooom in the morning, it excites me to see what teachers I have. And sure, some of them aren't the best teachers, but it's a Fact of Life: teachers can sometimes be bad.

I'll post my first day of school overview later, once I finish my homework in Spanish, science, math, and LA. It's the second day of school BTW, and I would have had Lit homework if I hadn't done it in school.
Everything except the LA is due tomorrow.

...People are really different, I suppose, because you just named the things I hate about school and somehow managed to put them in a positive light. I'm glad you enjoy them, though!

My first day of school.

I considered coming on this morning and sending a post on the fact that I was on the threshold of some amazing moment which would change my life forever. Then I realized that every moment changes your life forever. The choices you make in that moment can never reverse. Even if you just sit there and do nothing, that's some point of your life taken up. "If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice" and all that. But I digress. A lot.

Anyways, for those of ye interested in things like clothes, I wore a pair of hecka comfortable shorts and a T-shirt with a croc wearing head phones, rocking out, and saying "Oh, yeah!". Cheers. So I actually met up with my friends and the whole Japanese class was comparing schedules, chattering away in Japnese and English, bemoaning the loss of the knowledge of the Japanese grammar, doing victory dances, and generally catching up. Then all during 1st period we unpacked stuff and put it around the classroom and tried to look busy while actually doing nothing. During second period, we sat around playing a stupid "get-to-know-you" game (the same game my sister played six years ago), and eating a ton of candy. In math, our teacher gave us some triangle pattern thing-a-ma-jig that, for the life of me, I could not figure out.

Next I had lunch. I wasn't even hungry yet. I actually had lunch with TWO of my friends (never happened before) but after they realized no lenient teachers would let us into their classroom during lunch period, and that there wasn't enough time to play a game, we resigned ourselves to a life of living in the library doing homework. Lovely. In fourth period, my science teacher talked on. and on. and on. and actually didn't get anything done. In tech class, our tech teacher showed us a PowerPoint he had made all about himself (surprise, surprise) and we discussed things like how high Michael Jordan could jump, the pecularities of Michael Jackson's plastic surgery, the bathrooms of homeless people, and Hinduism. Our tech teacher is kind of an idiot...... And to finish up the day, our history teacher gave us lessons on manners and Cornell notes and a page of reflections as homework. Fuuuuuuuuun. And when the bell rang I practically flew out of the door, ran across school (oh, did I mention that all my classes are as far apart from each other as possible?), and made it to the sixth grade science teacher's room where I signed up for the recycling team. And afterwords, I hung around several young miscreants because I needed to talk to one of them, and then ran into last year's English teacher, who gave me a hug and insisted I dropped in some time for a chat. And, fortunately, at that point, my carpool arrived, freeing me from the clutches of this English teacher.

And that was my first day of Eighth grade.

I may have to quote you on that.

Better than my first day of eighth grade: Some bozo in administration mixed up my schedule with another person's schedule, so my day kind of went like this: Go to school, attempt to open locker, wonder why locker will not open, go to English with backpack. Get yelled at for having backpack in English, teacher takes roll call, realizes I am not on the list. Get sent to principal's office. Secretary lady gives  pass to me, I try to go to science. Yay! I'm in the right class. Leave science, go to lunch. Nom lunch with friends, speculate about schedule and locker situations. Leave lunch, attempt to go to tech. Get yelled at for being in the wrong class. Return to office. Get another pass. Attempt to go to geometry. Get hindered in the halls so much that I eventually gave up on trying to get to geometry. Return to office, get another pass. Person called down on PA, secretary talks to us, we swap schedules, and I return to English. Teacher almost yells at me, I show schedule, he relents. Sit through English like nothign was the matter. Read To Kill a Mockingbird underneath the desk. Final bell. Stick tongue out at locker. Bus. End.

Needless to say, I kinda hated eighth grade. But the person whose schedule was confused with mine ended up becoming a good friend of mine, so that was okay.

Guys, I am so, so sorry you have to go to school in August. I'm sorry, but that should just be illigal. My school is a private boarding/day school (I'm a day student) so we don't start till September 10th. But I have to go to a "Senior Class Team Building Workshop" where we talk about the responsabilites of a senior and being the leaders of the school *Slams head repeatedly against the wall* on the 9th, so I technically start the 9th.  We actually start pretty late this year. I will update you guys on my first day of being what is called a Feshman in other schools but is a Senior at my school (we have this really weird system of going until 9th grade and then going to another school in Sophmore year. Ah well, at least I can avoid the whole Freshman pounding drama) in *checks calender* 23 days. In the meantime, I love hearing about everyones first day!!

I wonder if your school ends later than ours, in addition to starting later. When does school end for you? I start August 27 and end June 1 or thereabouts.
