Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Because I adore

Because I adore quizzes.  And because I have not seen one in too long. This one's just little more than a bunch of random questions.

1)  Find something *orange!* in the room.  Describe it.

9) I dunno. I don't watch musicals much.

10) 109 degrees! Yeah! Let's have some real California heat!

1)  Find something *orange!* in the room.  Describe it.

The Chicago Manual of Style (which, incidentally, belongs to my mother, although she dislikes orange)

2)  Your desktop?

Do you mean computer wallpaper? I'm pretty sure desktop means non-portable computer (not something I'm currently using). The wallpaper of the computer I'm currently using (which is not mine) is possibly abstract, or maybe it's supposed to be a white building against the sky--I can't tell.

3)  What did you eat for breakfast?

Let's see... *thinks* I don't really eat organized meals like that, but the first thing I ate was tomato soup.

4)  What are you wearing?

Pajamas: Yellow-orange shorts that I dislike and would never wear in public with a University of Houston shirt that I would also never wear in public (I have it because my father works there, so it was free). (Not that there's anything wrong with UH, but if I wear it in public, people think I want to go there, which is false).

5)  Tolkien or Rowling?

Definitely Tolkien! I love Rowling's work, but it doesn't compare to most of Tolkien's, in my opinion.

6) Collins or Riordan?

Certainly Collins. Riordin's books are entertaining, I suppose, but there's no depth whatsoever to them. I suppose Collins' books are at least mildly thoughtful, and they're certainly better written, along with more interesting characters. (I kind of really hate Percy).

7)  Sirius or Aragorn?

Mm... I'm not sure. I like them both.

8)  What was the last movie you watched?

Tree of Life

9)  Favorite musical?

The only musicals I'm especially familiar with so far are "Annie," "Little Women," and "Beauty and the Beast," but I suppose, out of those, I prefer... "Little Women." Probably. But they're all excellent, and "Beauty and the Beast" is very close. I would like to add that I was just bored with Little Women the book; this is the only case I know of where I actually prefer the theatrical version of a book.

10)  What's the weather?

I'm sick, so I haven't been outside lately, but I'm sure it's terribly hot. Also, the sprinkler was on earlier today, so it must not have rained or be about to rain, although it's been doing that often lately.

Is your mother an editor, Ima? The Chicago Manual of Style is my closest orange thing here, too! I don't think it's found in the average household.

You know the Little Women musical?! squee! (none of my RL friends do, except one but it doesn't count because she'll buy anything with Sutton Foster's name on it). :D

I have this memory at the back of my head that a local High School did a play of Little Women, and there was singing, so I think I do know the Little Women musical, and like it.

@ Admin: No, but she is a writer. My dad used to be an editor, though (he works in media relations now), and I don't actually know that it isn't his; I was actually making an assumption because most of the books on that particular shelf are hers. From the very little I know about it, though, it would make sense for a writer to have it--but I'm sure you know more about it than I do, since you've probably read it (as you own the book and also are an editor).

@ TNO: It really is an excellent musical. I wasn't really expecting to like it much, since I didn't like the book, but in the musical, the characters had actual personalities instead of just being Mary Sues with a few distinguishing traits--and Jo was even relatable.

Crepes. My mom made them.

5)  Tolkien or Rowling?

How can you ask me to pick one?

6) Collins or Riordan?

Collins. Never even read anything by Rick Riordan.

Freaky Friday. Weird, I know.

9)  Favorite musical?

At the moment, Beauty and the Beast.

10)  What's the weather?

The Sympathy Jones studio recording (with KATE SHINDLE. :D) because I splurged and bought the actual CD instead of the cheaper digital download. Yay.

2)  Your desktop?

A picture of Havot/Chaos.

3)  What did you eat for breakfast?

Um... a sandwich I think.

4)  What are you wearing?

Black pyjama pants, Follies t-shirt

The Last 5 Years (Jason Robert Brown)

10)  What's the weather?

Smoky, mostly. The Fontenelle fire is flaring up again (it's burned 64,215 acres at last measurement). And the wind blows all the smoke STRAIGHT TO US.

On the plus side, it hasn't started raining ash again. And it hasn't quite managed to blot out the sun like last time either (IT WAS LIKE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE HERE A MONTH AGO).

YAY PEOPLE ACTUALLY POSTED ON A THREAD I STARTED BECAUSE THIS NEVER EVER HAPPENS PEOPLE MUSTA LIKED THIS ONE CAUSE IT'S A RANDOM QUIZ AND EVERYBODY LOVES THOSE

Please excuse me screaming.  I need to scream right now, and I can only do so in caps, because my dad is working and plus our neighbor's house is like two feet away from ours and they'd think I was really insane if I screamed as loud as I want to now- well they do anyway, but that's another story.  I just had AP Latin class- first meeting- for two hours straight- and then before that a flute masterclass for more like two and a half hours.  So yeah.  You can see why I want to scream.

But on a cheerier note, I've been reading Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality and it is HILARIOUS.

Ok italics are malfunctioning I don't know why Admins please fix????

1)  Find something *orange!* in the room.  Describe it.

Annoying Bubblething in a ten year old Klutz package.  And he talks about purging access stuff.  *rolls eyeballs at father*

2)  Your desktop?

Grey.  Arg.  My dad has un-original desktops.  It's not even a dark or light grey.  Just an average grey.

3)  What did you eat for breakfast?

Cold chocolate chip and raspberry pancake.  I had a sleepover last night, and we kind of splurged.

4)  What are you wearing?

Jeans that are covered with paint (I was painting a doll house with my friend.  I know, random.)  Extremely bright shirt with lots of leaves and pretty flowers.  Green Keens.  Falling apart ponytail.  *fixes ponytail.* Much better.  For the next five minutes.

5)  Tolkien or Rowling?

Tolkein.  Tolkein.  Tolkein.  Tolkien.

6) Collins or Riordan?

Collins.  Collins.  Collins.  Collins.

7)  Sirius or Aragorn?

Nyarsh.  Why must I choose between the two only good characters in amazing serieses?  Arg, Aragorn.  (Mattie?  Where is your Tolkein self defense?)

8)  What was the last movie you watched?

Finished the BBC version of Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  Last full length movie?  Ratatouille.  For some reason.

Overcast.

@Gollum-

Aragorn is not a character.  He is a symbol.  He's not really that accessible- I don't know, I never really liked him.  I wish Tolkien had given us more insight into his character- argh.  You know what?  I am totally wrong.  Aragorn does have character.  The bit with the palantir.  That was striking.  At Amon Hen, Boromir's last fight, the relationship with Arwen, being willing to follow Frodo to the very end.

Okay, scratch everything I said before about Aragorn being flat.  (You know what?  Public mind-changes are a royal pain, as both Newt Gingrich and I can attest.

1) Orange. Let's see. Umm....a plastic--get this--orange from the kitchen toy box.

2) I actually don't know right now, because I am the kind of person who can't remember what something looks like ten seconds after I stop looking at it, and I'm not actually on my computer. But I think it might be a picture of my cat wearing a pair of those cheap 3-D glasses (the kind that are two different colors), with a caption that says I Can Haz Spectraspects.

3) Why do you need to know? : ) A bagel with cream cheese.

4) A Dordt College shirt, denim shorts, seven bracelets, a watch and a pocket knife.

5) Mmmm...tough question. I think I'll be neutral on this one.

6) Riordan. Collins has more character developement, true, but Riordan's books are funny while still keeping a dark undertone, which I highly appreciate.

7) I'll have to go with Aragorn, mostly because Sirius was an arrogant snob.

8) The Hunger Games. I was not impressed.

9) Oh...do I have to pick just one? I"ll have to go with Wicked.

10) Sunny.
