So because Listening

So because Listening Daisy started the Hogwarts House thread, I'm starting one that's much the same thing except with more...well...stuff. For instance in addition to your house you post your patronus, (there's a patronus quiz on the scholastic website) what your favorite class would be if you went to Hogwarts, and what your LEAST favorite class would be if you went to Hogwarts. (Favorite and least favorite classes cannot be determined by teacher, only by the class itself) =)

Here's mine:

House: Slytherin (or possibly Ravenclaw, different quizzes have told me different things)

Patronus: Owl

Favorite Class: Transfiguration

Least Favorite Class: Potions

POST AWAY!!!! ;D

Agreed. I love history and was rather surprised to see how many people listed it as their least favorite subject. It wouldn't be my favorite at Hogwarts because Care of Magical Creatures is really my dream class, but I'm sure I'd love it, assuming it wasn't taught by Binns--and we were told not to take teachers into account (which is reasonable because some of the classes don't always have the same teacher).

I love history and have always been fortunate to have awesome teachers for it, but the history curriculum as taught by Professor Binns would be terrible. I don't do well in classes that don't interest me, and while I would certainly be pursuing historical studies in my own time were I actually enrolled at Hogwarts, I would hate the class itself. I care very little about specific subject matter, because almost everything IS interesting if you come at it properly, but presentation makes all the difference.

So Yeah.

I agree, but Snake said, "Favorite and least favorite classes cannot be determined by teacher, only by the class itself."

But you can't judge a class based solely on content. Teachers matter in determining whether a class will be enjoyable or informative or worthwhile academically, teachers set the whole atmosphere for the classroom and a bad one can make an otherwise engaging subject an absolute nightmare and, conversely, a good one can make an otherwise dull subject exciting and interesting. Presentation is everything.

Let's here it for those dedicated, memorable teachers that make a difference in so many lives. I remember so many good ones I had.

...I suppose that's a good point. We really don't know what History of Magic would be like without Binns. But... we can try to figure out how much we'd like it by how delighted we'd be if JKR published content in that area.

I mean, my own answers would have been substantially different if I considered the teachers. For instance, I have major trouble with even normal, real-life teachers interpreting what I say as rude when I don't mean it that way at all, so any classes with teachers with sadistic tendencies, such as Umbridge or Snape, would be nightmares for me--but that doesn't stop me from being interested in defensive spells and potions. I can describe what a typical day would probably be like in those classes for me in great detail, and it would not be at all pleasant, but when I think about the actual subjects, they excite me.

House: Ravenpuff (but Hufflepuff, really, I think)

Patronus: Tardigrade, of course! At least, I like to think that's why I've never been able to cast one that I can see.

Favorite class: Care of Magical Creatures, definitely! If I was a witch, I'd want to be a magizoologist. Even in real life, I want to be a zoologist, the closest real-world equivalent.

Least favorite class: Muggle Studies and Divination, but those are electives, so I wouldn't have to take them. I suppose... eh... Charms or Potions or DADA, but I'd love all the subjects! They all sound amazing, if you ignore the teachers.

Can I also add what my electives would be? I'd take Care of Magical Creatures and Arithmancy and Ancient Runes, and I'd also ask permission to take exams in Muggle Studies to see if I could get an OWL and even a NEWT in it when I'm old enough without having to actually take the class. For 6th and 7th year, I'd want to continue with all those classes, but if I absolutely didn't have time, I'd consider possibly dropping Astronomy, since of all my classes, that would be least relevant to my future career. Also, I'd beg and beg that they offer Alchemy, because I really, really want to learn how to make a Philosopher's Stone.

By the way, if they let me take Alchemy, I definitely wouldn't drop Astronomy, because then I'd have so many classes they'd give me a Time-Turner. That's almost as good as a Philosopher's Stone.

House:  Ravenclaw, perhaps Gryffindor.

Patronus: I think either a fox, wolf, or hawk.
