Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I broke my

I broke my foot pretty badly two days ago, and I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate places with crutches and a giant boot. This isn't my first time breaking a bone (I broke my arm last year), but, aside from a couple sprained ankles, this is the first injury that I've gotten that seriously hinders me.

Let's list:

1. Stairs. The first time I tried going up them, I came right back down with a new bruise. Currently, I'm only taking one crutch up and leaning on it.

2. Showers. Ow.

3. Driver's Ed. I'm supposed to be starting next week, but my mom says that I can't do the summer session anymore, and that I'll have to do it in the fall when school starts. Yay.

4. Marching Band. I suppose this would be a heckuva lot easier if I played piccolo or oboe or something teeny like that, but no, I play the giant honkin' sousaphone. It's gonna wreck havoc with my roll step...

5. I don't really have a fifth one, but it's really nice to just sit and complain every once in a while. And I like nice round numbers.

So, anybody else break themselves? Does anybody have tips for remedying anything on this list?

Poor you.  I fell out of a tree a week ago, and yesterday I was on a hammock with four other kids and it was old and the kid pushing us was swinging really hard, and it kind of was in the air and then it wasn't.  And it was my play director's hammock!  About Marching Band, maybe tell your conductor that you kind of broke your foot.  If that doesn't help, maybe stab him/her with your crutch.

But I'm supposed to be the squad leader and I have to be on the field!

Haha. Garth says xgun. No.

Ugh. That's horrible. Luckily, never broken feet, but I did break an arm in third grade.

Ouch. I've never broken a foot, but I've broken my arm three times. It's so annoying when other kids say, "I want to break my arm, because I want a cast." Casts are horrible. I had a full arm cast all summer, so I coulden't go to the beach, I couldent take a shower, etc., etc. The worst was the pins. It hurt sooooo bad when they pulled them out.

Ooh. That stinks.  For stairs, either a) use one crutch and hold the railing b) butt-scoot up them c) take the elevator/ramp.

I've never broken a bone, but some of my friends have.

I've never broken a bone either, but I know how you can remedy #5.

How?

For showers- do you have to wear the boot all the time, or can you take it off? (Here is a person who has broken almost every bone in her body, but still knows nothing about this kind of injury.) If you can take it off, prop your foot up on a stool. If you can't, do the same thing, but outside the shower, which is marginally harder.

My cousin broke his foot jumping into the shallow end of a pool. Great idea, right?

I know a kid who's broken his arm four times. Once my mom asked him about it and he said, "Oh, it's fine. I plan to break it six more times."

Not sure what to say to that.

You ask him when and where so you can be there with popcorn.
