Meet new Chatterboxers.
Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket
Meet new Chatterboxers.
Meet new Chatterboxers. Learn new Chatterbox things!
I'm kinda new here, so I thought it would be a good idea to start this thread. It's for everybody that's new to meet each other and learn stuff about the Chatterbox.

Cool! Here are some things/abbreviations newbies should know.
Who is Spamboy? The anti-spam code. Some of the Chatterboxers have different names for him/her, like Spammy, CAPTCHA, Percy, Andy, Zar, Princess of Spamalot, Vic, and so on and so forth. It is a popular habit to end posts with a translation of whateven Spamboy is saying.
What is a Silly Stupid Senseless Smiley Story?
Hi, I'm Miss Chatter.
Hey, I'm Mr.Box.
And this is....a Silly Stupid Senseless Smiley Story!
Just take some of these emoticons.....
....And write what each one says underneath an emoticon.....
.....and call it a story!
Bye!
What's an Ear Worm?
A song that you can't get out of your head.
What's an SI?
An SI, or Secret Identities, is when ChatterBoxers pose as fake people or objects on a thread. At the end of a period of time, they guess eachother's identities.
What do I use each of the sections for?
I'm glad you asked!
This Month: Talk about Cricket magazine, and, occasionally hold debates to keep it alive.
Chirp at Cricket: Ask Cricket and the rest of the bugs questions. Also home of Smiley threads, SIs, Randomness threads, Hi I'm new threads, and other things that don't really belong.
Blab about Books: Talk about cool reads, bookstores, Nook vs. Kindle, hold Harry Potter RPs, create book quizzes, and basically discuss anything book related.
Down to Earth: Now here's where it gets random! Down to Earth was intended to be a section where you could talk about life, but now you can post anything. There's a thread for almost anyone on Down to Earth: World Domination, Pie + Smiley Wars, Wordie Gurdies, Random Things You Hate, even Makeup. There are also loads of debates.
Pudding's Place: The place to squee over musicals, talk about music, movies, YouTube, and A Very Potter Musical, and more. Also the home of the Warrior cat RPs.
Inkwell: A haven for budding artists and writers! It's filled with RPs and RRs of every genre, discussions on NaNoWriMo,the home of the Dead Thread Revival Agency and The Author Pairs Movement, and plenty of places to post YOUR stories.
I'll post more on what some of the terminology in those sections meant later, unless someone would like to do it for me. ;)

Here are the definitions for some of my terminology:
Debate: When Chatterboxers come together to argue in a mostly civilized manner about something. Topics include religon, creation, politics, evolution, cats vs. dogs, zombies vs. unicorns, etc. There was a period in Chatterbox history which I like to call "The Debate Era". All anyone did was debate, and things got nasty. Threads began having titles like "Stop the debates!", "A thread not about debating", and "A calm down symbol for debates, anyone?" It eventually died down, and now people are a bit more calm. A WW Word of Wisdom: Try not to make debates too personal if you do hold one. If someone hurts your feelings, don't make it an argument. Don't lash out at different people's beliefs or ideas.
Smiley Threads: You know what smilies are, probably. These things, in case you don't: :) :D :P :( :'( etc. Smiley Threads are exhibitions of sorts where people display their smiley knowledge.
Randomness Threads: Where Chatterboxers write the first thing that pops into their head. These threads can get hundreds of hits! Click on one, and you'll see things like:
"My goldfish is tapdancing on my purple flying tarigrdade."
"joj498v58947jfo 4nuo"
"INCONCIEVABLE!"
RP: Short for roleplay. Each person picks a character to be, then everyone creates a world. Each time someone posts, they write about battles or meeting someone or riding a dragon or WHATEVER people do in their world from their point of view. Popular RP Topics: Fantasy, Harry Potter (Harry Potter=HP), Hunger Games, Warriors (Stay away from Warriors RPs-we'll discuss why later), dragons, dystopia, etc.
World Domination Thread: A long time ago, ZNZ (a Chatterboxer) announced thatt she was going to take over the world using mind control jellybeans. Then, Ima (another person) decided to do the same thing, but with pies. The two groups dueled for a while, bribing everyone from basketball teams to Percy Jackson to Mr. McGregor from Peter Rabbit to join teams. There were "Pietyping", "Anti-Pie Serum," and plenty of long abbreviations. The thread is currently dead, but you can revive it! WW Word of Wisdom: Join Team ZNZ! Joking.... :)
Pie Wars: See this? [} It's a pie emoticon. Pie Wars are hundreds of posts where people built pies, pie catapults, and even castles out of emoticons and punctuation!
Smiley Wars: Same as Pie Wars, but with smilies.
Wordie Gurdies: Also known as Hink Pinks. You come up with a question, and the answer rhymes. Example: "What do you call a beginning dessert?" "A rookie cookie!" WW Word of Wisdom: Keep practicing, I know you can do it!
More later! :D
Thanks, WW. This is a great guide for all of us! FYI, when I was a kid we called the latter Hinky Pinkies.

Yay! A couple more things, though:
NaNoWriMo:
Stands for National Novel Writing Month. It's an activity with its own website that lots of people here are involved in. You have to write 50,000 words in one month to win prizes.
YWP:
Young Writer's Program. NaNoWriMo for underage people. You can set your own word count. Prizes still apply.
RRR's:
Stands for Round Robin 'Riting. Means that you take turns adding bits onto a story that someone starts. Everyone shares all the characters.
Warriors RPs:
Once upon a time there were so many Warriors RP threads that they completely covered the front page of Blab about Books. The Admins had to ban any new Warriors threads from being created until the fad died down a bit. Needless to say the existing threads got very long. The ban has been lifted by now, I think.

Also, writing terms:
Charrie: Character.
FF: Fanfiction.
Canon: The original book that you're writing the fanfiction off of.
Mary-sue: A character that lacks development or personality of any kind. Known for their conspicuous lack of flaws. Boring to read about.
Gary-stu: A male Mary-sue.
Anti-sue: A Villain with no redeeming qualities at all. Pure wickedness at all times, without any real explanation. Stereotypical.
Also, can someone tell me what AU means?
Editors use AU to stand for author. I'm not sure if that's what Chatterboxers use it for though.

AU is a fanfiction term meaning alternate universe. It denotes that the story is set in another world where events went down differently - a world where Neville was the Chosen One instead of Harry, for example.
(November 27, 2011 - 3:58 pm)
I've always understood AU to stand for Alternate Universe, and that's what I use it for...
(December 2, 2011 - 11:32 am)
I think it's hink pinks for one syllable rhymes and hinky pinkies for two syllable rhymes.

Hinky Pinky: What do you call a prized meal?
A winner dinner!

(August 12, 2011 - 1:01 pm)
I'm not sure they're much to say after your explanation, WW! :)
(August 12, 2011 - 4:55 pm)
Um, NaNoWriMo (NaNo for short) stands for National Novel Writing Month and... it's too hard for my tiny brain-thing to explain.
Warriors RPs are in Pudding's Place because a few months ago, the entire front page of BaB (Blab About Books) was basically just Warriors RPs, so the Admins created a rule that they have to be in PP. (Pudding's Place)
