Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket
it’s my cbversary!
i honestly can’t believe it’s been four years. that’s pretty wild. i actually had to go back and check, because i thought i might’ve gotten confused and it was only three years but, nope, december 9th, 2020 was indeed the date of my first post.
i was one of the many new cbers who joined during the pandemic—it was such a fun, vibrant, hopeful, and welcoming community, and i honestly don’t know how i would’ve gotten through the pandemic without it. i’m so grateful for all of those people who chatted with me, rped with me, supported my writing, and taught me about aes and ski lodges and topping (i thought “top” was an annoying spammer who would post long strings of comments but wouldn’t write anything XD) when i first joined, even though many of those people are no longer active (though quite a few still are, ofc :D).
nowadays, the cb may be a little…quieter, sure. but it’s still the same place i fell in love with four years ago. we’ve got tons of ski lodges and solo writes and text adventures. we’ve got last to post and ae shipping and written picturings. but above all of that, it’s still, at its heart, a place of kindness and acceptance and creativity.
i was talking to someone the other day about the importance third places—basically a place to socialize other than work/school or home—and how they’ve been sort of eliminated in our society. it made me think of the cb; even though it’s not a literal place place, i still think of it as one, because—and i might sound a bit sappy here, so be warned—it’s not just a website, it’s a community we’ve built together over the years, filled with aes and ski lodges and zoodles and all sorts of other stuff that exists nowhere else. it’s a place where i can be myself, it’s a place where i know i’ll always be listened to and respected, it’s a place i can always count on for a laugh or a (metaphorical because y’know) shoulder to cry on.
so thank you all—cbers of the past who built the culture of this place and welcomed me when i first joined, and the cbers of the present for keeping that culture alive and evolving and for being your awesome selves, and the cbers of the future, who i know will continue to uphold the traditions of this place and add their own, and, of course, the admins, for working so hard to make sure the cb is the incredible safe place it is.
i’m not sure what i’ll do to celebrate my cbversary—i already have the cb holiday party going on, so how about i just do a q&a on this thread? that's always fun - so yeah, ask me anything!! :D
well, i don’t know what else to say besides thank you all for a wonderful four years, and i look forward to many, many more :)
love,
pangolin

(December 9, 2024 - 9:23 pm)
PERI!! thank you so much :D and thank you for being who you are!! i know i say this every time it's either of our cbversaries, but daydreams cafe was one of my very first interactions on the cb, and you were so kind and welcoming and made me realize that okay, yeah, the cb is definitely a place i want to be, and i'm forever grateful for that <3 and you've just been so kind and funny and awesome over the years, and your writing has always been such an inspiration for me (your ski lodge and poetry in particular are both awesome!!), and i'm just so glad i know you <33
(December 10, 2024 - 7:37 pm)

(December 10, 2024 - 7:43 pm)
Happy CBversary! I think we joined around the same time (I also thought top was a spammer lol). You have always been a very kind person, and an important member of Chatterbox. I agree CB is a bit quieter now, but that means it a tighter-knit community.
Here's my question: What has been your favorite thread over the years?
P.S. You're awesome!!!
(December 10, 2024 - 2:47 pm)
piano man!! thank you so much! i'm very glad to know i wasn't the only one who thought that about top XD and yeah, i really love the tight-knit quality the cb has nowadays :) you're also a really important member of the cb - you're such a kind, supportive, friendly, and fun person, and i'm so glad to know you :D
ooh good question! it's so hard to pick a favorite. daydreams cafe was iconic, as is the last to post thread, and the zoodle threads and cb city rps were so fun. basically every ski lodge every is alos awesome. and i loved the king arthur si :D
(December 10, 2024 - 8:07 pm)

(December 10, 2024 - 3:05 pm)
thank you so much, amity!! i don't think we've talked much either, but from your posts, you also seem like a really cool, kind person, and i'm so glad you're on the cb :) i'd also love to get to know you better - i'm a little too busy for a chat thread at the moment, but we'll definitely have to talk at some point :]
(December 10, 2024 - 8:09 pm)
Happy CBversary!!!!! *eco-friendly confetti goes everywhere* *balloons rise into the air* I haven't chatted with you that much, but I've read tons of your posts, and I'm so glad you're here - I feel like you've been an enormous influence on the CB, and on me personally. You're an amazing, funny, wonderful person, and I'm so glad you're on here <33 RPing with you on Kyngdom was always great; and ofc, I couldn't forget to say that you're a spectacularly good writer/poet and I adore your writing (MCUs included) :D
For q&a, apologies for asking the impossible-to-answer question, but what's your favorite book/one of your favorite books rn?
(December 10, 2024 - 5:08 pm)
