Hey there everybuggy!

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Hey there everybuggy!

Hey there everybuggy!

I've just started reading Cricket and I absolutely LOVED it! My favorite books are Matilda by Roald Dahl and books by David Williams. My favorite movie is Zootpia. My favorite story in the Cricket magazine is The New Arrival (October 2020). I wish Cricket would put more stories like it in the magazine. My hobbies are drawing and reading,I've tried to write a few stories of my own but I always end up having brain bloke and quitting:(  Does anybuggy have a good way how to cure my brain bloke?

Soon to be your most loyal reader

Welcome to the Chatterox, Amber. We're pleased to meet you!

Hi there amber! I'm Zoba_Tea! It's nice to meet you, I'm sorta new here too.

For your writers block: What's always helped me is to test different wriing genres until I find the one I like (For example, fantasy, sci-fi, or non-fiction. I personally like fantasy). And if that doesn't work, read and watch different books and movies/shows and figure out what you like about them, it might be the character development in one story, or the setting in another.

Another thing that REALLY helps you get started is making your characters. It's one of my favorite things to do (I have like, 80+ original characters) and there are so many ways to do it! The two main ways are 1# Looking up different personality traits for them, or even names (I usually look up names the correspond to my characters personality). And 2# Basing their names, personality, and appearence off of people you know, like friends or family. This is a great way to really connect with your characters and write them more easily.

I rambled, didn't I? ANYWAY, it's so nice to have you here and I hope I helped with your writers block! :)

read you around!!

Hi there Amber! I'm Moon Wolf, and I've been around here for a bit more than a year. I started reading Cricket around two or three years ago, I think. I love Matilda! It's a brilliant story. Zootopia is also a really good movie. I just looked for The New Arrival, and it is a really cool story!

I enjoy drawing doodles and reading as well, and writing. :( yep I always get writer's block whenever I write more than a few pages. What I do is try to keep persisting---maybe you could set a time aside for writing the story every day, no more and no less. That would get your story going!

Hope to read you around!

Hi there Amber, nice to see you join us in the CB! I'm Zealatom, he/him. I look forwards to seeing you around.

The best advice I have is not to fret about the story itself. The muse will show up by in time, and when it does you can start putting the pen down on paper. In the meantime take a break and toss ideas about; read, make a few ocs, create some worlds and settings and have fun in general until a story comes along. There is no shortcut to writing- you just read a lot and write a lot and the writer's block will vanish. Of course, you could always share your specific problems with us on Inkwell and we'd be happy to help with brainstorming!

Alright, coming back to add the link to the CB's Ultimate guide. Taking a moment to flip through its pages would help clear a lot of CB culture up for you if you might be confused about certain abbreviations and topics.

Welcome aboard, Amber! I'm Periwinkle (she/her), but you can just call me Peri. Here's a link to our Ultimate Guide, which is super helpful for navigating the CB: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/443573

I also often have that problem with writing. Have you tried writing short stories? They can be less intimidating than writing a whole book. Another great way to stick with writing is to participate in national writing project. I did it last year, and it's lots of fun! It's when you attempt to write a certain number of words in 30 days. You can challenge yourself whenever you want.

I hope to see you around the CB! Let me know if you have any questions :D

Hi, Amber! I'm Amity. I don't remember reading the New Arrival, but I'm not sure when I started getting Cricket. I'll look it up after I post this comment. If you keep quitting writing your stories because you don't know what's happening next, maybe try to think of the plot before you start writing? I don't know if this is helpful.

Welcome to the CB, Amber! I’m Sempreverde. I’ve been here for more than half a year now.

For your writer’s block, maybe plan the outline a little first? So you have a vague idea of where you want the story to go. Anyways, it’s nice meeting you and I hope to read you around!

Hey there, welcome to the CB! Nice to meet ya. I'm Riddle_Wren, but you can call me Wren. I use they/faer/it pronouns, but if it's easier for you, you can just use they/it.

That's neat! So you like the older CB stories? Me too, when I was younger the October 2020 and December editions were my favorite.

I love reading and drawing too--about brain block, you can try searching up writing prompts online and writing about them to get your "brain juices" flowing. That always helps me, even if the prompts are really silly.

Anyway, welcome to the CB, we're glad to have you!

Hello! I'm Seadragon, she/her, and welcome to the Chatterbox! The Ultimate Guide, links to which have been posted by other people, is really helpful. For writer's/brain block, you can try making the characters feel what you're feeling--for instance, if they write, then they can complain about writer's block or have it in school if they go to school--which for me can sometimes help get my brain flowing.
