I think this is a cool idea, but like the people from 2012 said, it can go bad pretty fast. If everyone has their own "mailboxes," it can crowd up other threads. Also, certain CBers may get more "letters" than other CBers, making the CBers that don't get as many "letters" feel bad. Perhaps if we come up with a solution to these issues, then we can revive Chatterbox mail? Because it does sound like it would be very cool :)

What if we had a thread for all the mailboxes, that way there's only one thread? It could be like a post office, instead of a lot of individual mailboxes.
Then, CBers could comment on the thread, which would be their mailbox in the post office, and all the replies to that comment would be mail for that CBer.
And we could memorize which page our mailbox is on, that way we can check it.
So we could do an address like:
1 (comment number), Street (aka. page) 1, Chirp at Cricket, CB

Yes, but someone who posted before the other could get enough mail to actually change the page numbering of the other person, which would not work so well. However, we could do comment count or "CBM codes" that indicate the mailbox order in which it was posted (for example, the CBM code of the first person who makes a mailbox is 00000, next is 00001, etc. etc.)
Maybe we can also recreate the CCP, or Chatterbox Currency Project? That sounded fun (even though it did start world domination by ZNZ...)

That's a good solution to the first problem, but I'm still worried about some CBers getting more letters than others. In the past, there's been a lot of drama over the compliment threads, because some CBers were being complimented more than others, and the people who weren't being complimented as much felt bad. I just don't want a repeat of that.

Well, let's tackle it one problem at a time. Here are the problems, solved and unsolved:
1. The threads will take up all the first page: Mailboxes are on the same thread, and it is looked up by CBM number.
2. People will think their mailboxes are private: Mailboxes are on the same thread, so inevitably other mailboxes will be viewed when searching for one mailbox.
3. People will be upset when they get less mail than others:

I really like this idea. But, what if. Just hear me out. We put the mail Boxes on Blab about Books. That part of cricket doesn't get used much from my understanding. Idk, just a thought.

Hmm. Yeah, I think a mailbox thread could be fun. I think if we were going to do it, the "CBM codes" could work pretty well. You can just tell anybody what number you are and they'll be able to easily find you.
We definetely don't want to do separate threads for mailboxes, though.

@pangolin, that's a good point that some CBers might get more mail than others. Maybe we could limit the types of mail so that some CBers aren't getting a large quantity of very long letters and the "letters" are more like reminders/delivery kinds of things. So for example, if someone requested a written picturing from a CBer, then that could be mailed. And @ mentions could also be put in the mailbox. That way everyone should get an amount of mail specifically directed to them depending on how active or not active they are. Would that work?
Another idea: Maybe we could comment as To: (insert recipient) and then in the Location box write "From: (insert CBer who is sending the mail) that way CBers can know when they have mail.
@Sine, I think the CBM codes are a great idea! (also as a sidenote we should make sure nobody posts their mailbox at the same time so there aren't three 00000's CBMs or something like that)
And we probably shouldn't put advertisements in the mailboxes, because ads can get...annoying.

Hmm, I was actuallty thinking about something like that last night.
Like, maybe we could have a Post Office for usernames A-M and then another one for usernames N-Z. That way it's not as crowded?

Hmm. Seems interesting. Also, what if we had a mailbox for public announcements? I was thinking it could be the first one, 00000, but somebody's already taken that. And honestly, I think if it's just confined to one thread it would be fine to put in CaC or DtE.
