City SI

City SI

So this is basically an SI where you pick any city from around the world to make your SI name, like San Francisco, Paris, Sydney, ect., ect. Just for fun, you can learn about how old the city is and make that your age, and if the city has any nicknames or is famous for any landmarks, you can make that your location. And if you have any fun facts about the city you chose you can share them! I don't know if any of you will be into this, I just like learning about other places and as summer approaches (I still have 13 ((12??)) more days of school :() I'm experiencing some wanderlust.

A fact about NYC: The New York Public Library has two statues of lions in front of it, Patience and Fortitude, who are decorated with Christmas wreaths every year during the holidays specially made so they do not damage the marble they're made of. Although they've had many nicknames, their current names were chosen in the Great Despression. Patience and Fortitude have become the library's trade mark and are even featured in their logo.

London is has an official smallest statue. It's of two mice eating cheese and is dedicated to two builders who fell of The Monument over a missing sandwich that they blamed on each other but was actually caused by the mouse infestation. Also Londons over 2000 years old!!

I actually have a funny story about why I chose Chicago. All of my friends are really bad at geography-- one has to ask me which continents were Africa and South America, one said, and I quote, "I thought Nebraska was a state!" But two of them. Two of them thought Chicago was a state.

Oslo is the capital city of Norway, but was not always known as Oslo! Its former name was Christiania, named after a Danish king. Norwegian scholars desided it was inappropriate for the Norwegian capital to be named after a Dane in 1925, (take note that the name Christiania had already been switched to Kristiania in 1877), and therefore declared it Oslo.
