The CB hasn't talked about the impersonations in a while--partly because they were horrible, and partly because nobody should be getting any ideas. Talking and freaking out about the impersonations of times past can prompt more impersonations.

They hurt a lot of people, including me, but I was never actually impersonated. Someone simply speculated that I was the impersonator...in a comment that I read. It hurt me a lot, even though it was a pretty simple comment. Even today, I still get a bit worried that people might think I'm the impersonator. (Specifically because I partially defended Cho's impersonator.)

If you're ever impersonated or are on an impersonator thread, don't visibly panic, freak out, or yell at them. It can just encourage them more. The best thing to do is be calm and pretend you're not affected by any of it, while showing disapproval. These people are doing it for fun, and it seems like it's all a big prank to them (with two exceptions).

I'm sorry to hear your friend was doing that. That's honestly horrible.

But, anyways, I probably won't post much more on this thread. I don't think talking about the impersonations is a great idea, but I honestly couldn't resist.

I was never impersonated during the big impersonating fiascos, thankfully, though I was there for them. However, I was impersonated - three times - in one of my solo writes. A reader who was frustrated with me because I was having trouble getting out a new part pretended to be me and made mean comments about how "I didn't even remember the characters any more" and similar.

I think most people impersonate because a. they're really competitive and (maybe?) want other people to be downgraded so they seem better b. because it's fun, and to them it seems silly c. they don't really respect the unspoken rules of the CB.
