Italy!
I'm going to Italy! It's a week and a half long school trip and I think it's going to be amazing! I'm a bit nervous, seeing as this is my first time leaving the country and I've never flown on a plane for nine hours before. I've also never had to deal with jet lag, but Italy is six hours ahead so I won't have to worry about that until I come back. I'll be going to Venice, Florence, Rome, Pompeii, and the Vatican. We're going to learn how to be gladiators (which I am super excited for), have an Italian cooking class, dance the tarantella (yikes! I can't actually dance!), and visit a lot of art museums! When I get back I'm going to use this thread to share my travel stories and the photographs I take. Wish me luck! Until then,
Arrivederci!

Oh, Cockleburr! When do you go? Have a wonderful time. We look forward to hearing about your trip and seeing some photos on your return. Please toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain for me if you go there.
Buon viaggio!

Wow! Gosh, have fun! Make sure you tell us all about it when you get back, and I hope you have an absolutely amazing time. I know it's sometimes intimidating going overseas for the first time, but try not to be nervous! Just sit back and have a great trip. Oh wow, I'm so excited for you!
Colin says Omig. He's excited for you too!

That's SO COOL! Wow! Italy sounds so cool and...Venice? Pompeii? Lucky! I guess we'll hear from you when you get back--I can't wait to see pictures.

I'm back! We flew in last night after a nearly ten hour long plane ride to Chicago, then another two hours to DC. Each plane ride was easier than the one before it because I got more used to the expirience each time. I got home at about ten but it felt like four in the morning because I was still on Italy's time! I technically didn't sleep for twenty four hours and I'm pretty sure I just time travelled. But now I'll go in order.
Day 1: I left Richmond on July 2 and we took a bus from school to Reagan airport in DC. The bus ride was two hours, but I mostly read. We hung out in Reagan for a while and then got on a plane to Chicago, which didn't make too much sense because I'm fairly certain Chicago is in the wrong direction if you're trying to go to Italy, but it was most likely the cheapest way to get there or something. After a somewhat nerve wracking flight to Chicago, in which the pilot said something like, "There will be some unexpected turbulence, so all flight attendents go sit down. Everyone buckle your seatbelts. This will be fun." We had to stay in Chicago for about three hours, so we plunked down in a corner and and played some rounds of Capitalism, then wandered around the airport. I bought Six of Crows to read on the plane, which is a truly excellent book. We landed in Venice, Italy and met with our tour director, who was a woman named Elizabeth. We took a water taxi from the airport to our hotel, which was an interesting expirience. We dropped our bags off at our hotel and walked to the beach. On the way I bought a pizza bagel and it was honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten. I swam in the Adriatic Sea! It's green and very warm, and was shallow for a long way out. The Adriatic is saltier than the Atlantic and there's a lot more sea weed, which my teacher had fun throwing at us.
I'll write the other days later and hopefully get the pictures downloaded.
