Naming Random Things.

Naming Random Things.

Naming Random Things.

So I think I saw someone post one of these for instruments in DtE, but I haven't named my piano yet so I can't really post there.

I do have some random things named, so I would like to share them!

~ A smoke detector.  Yep.  The smoke detector outside my bathroom goes off every time the steam from a hot shower gets outside the room and says, "Evacuate!  Smoke detected!"  My mom and I named the voice that it speaks "Smokey" because it's a smoke detector.

~ A sharpie.  I have a thin-tipped sharpie that has the whole tip (even the gray part at the top) black, and if I press the side of it against paper, it leaves a blot.  So, like any sensible person, I named the sharpie "Inkblot."

~ Google Maps.  Last summer, when we went to Pacific Grove for a week, my mom said that she should name the Google Maps voice she was using.  I wanted to name it "Miss Amanda Pear" because the enicials were MAP, but my mom insisted on using "Mappy Appy Pappy" because it's a lot more fun and still has the enicials MAP.

So does anyone else name their objects?

Heh, I do that quite a lot.

-A flexible wooden drawing figure (ok, I don't know the official name). I named it 'The Wood Tinman', because I had just gotten myself into Wicked. It's made of wood, not tin, hence the switcheroo in the name.

-A (very rickety) blue table. It's name is Ol' Rickety, because a) It's rickety, and b) it belonged to my great-grandmother, so it's really old. The reasoning behind this is kind of pathetic, I know.

-A bunch of ceramic figures. One's name is Miss Piggy, because I love the Muppets (well, and the figures a pig), another one (also a pig) is named Fake Miss Piggy.

Oh, I do this!

-At gymnastics we have five beams- three high beams and two low beams. We decided to name them one day. The squishy high beam closest to the wall is Martha, the harder high beam in the middle is Mr. Chuck (my favorite), and the high beam with the big mat underneath is Albert. The good low beam is Barthalowmew and the one that nobody really uses is Dobby.

-I named my backpack Alcazar, because it's a boring backpack and needs an interesting name. I've tried spiceing it up with cool pins and some scraps of fabric and friendship bracelets tied on, too.

Heh, yeah, I TOTALLY do that... I've so far named:

1) My door. I know that sounds super weird, but I've named my door Shelly because I while ago I copied out a poem I really like called 'Invitation' (link below) and tacked it on my door for passers-by to read. Said poem is by Shel Silverstein, but some part of me just felt like I have a female bedroom door. Hence the name Shelly.

2) Also a sharpie. Also one that leaves a blot. Only when I discovered this fascinating feature, I had recently read the book 'Inkheart' (which, by the way, I totally reccomend and will soon write a Blab about Books for it). So this sharpie's name is Capricorn. If you've read the book, you'l understand the reference. If you haven't, do. And I promise this is not a sponsered comment to advertise the book. Laughing

3) This jacket... I have a plaid nylon jacket that says JAZZ CLUB CLASS OF '87 on the back, and because it says JAZZ I named it Ella Fitzgerald. I'm kinda into oldies jazz.

My friend named his guitar Clara. (Clay-ra, not Cla-ra! :P)

I don't have a lot of items named, but here are a few:

- A raggedy old stuffed animal duck. Named, well, Ducky. My Mom got it as a gift at my Baby Shower I think, and all throughout my baby years, until I was about 8 or 9, I slept with my arms wrapped around tight around it. It is my Ducky, will forever be my Ducky, and has a very special air-tight case up in my closet where he resides with Blankey (who is not as cherished as Ducky).

-That's all I can think of at the moment, but I might remember more later.

This is actually one of my favorite things to do. I have a lot.

-A tree. Actually, a few trees. At my old school, there was this little holly tree that my friends and I used to play around/with, and we named her Wild Cherry. The other tree is a tree that a tire swing hangs from near where I live, and it has the letters "IDH" carved into it. My little sister is just reading Harry Potter, so we named the tree Ignotius Dolores Hallow.

-I also have one of those wooden posing people that Quirker mentioned, and I named mine Shakespeare.

-At my old school, we got iPads that we used during the school year, they took them back during the summer, then they gave the same ones to us at the beginning of the next school year, so I made mine talk in a British accent and named it Jefferson.

-We named my mom and dad's cars. My dad's is named Ranger, and my mom's is named Georgie.

-This one isn't mine, but one time we asked my choir teacher what she named her piano, and she said that all her pianos were named "baby".

~I have a bluish purple Columbia fleece named Aslan, because it was from a consignment sale and it has "Aslan" written in pencil on the inside tag below the collar. It was my friend who first started calling it that.

~I am naming my purple paintbrush that I got yesterday in a watercoloring kit Biana, and the paint palette that came with it Silveny.

Azkiel says ywzp. You zip? Sorry, You don't get to tell me to be quiet. I'll be quiet plenty- when I want to be. XD

Oh hey, I drew Aslan. Also, it now occurs to me that I loosely named one of the vacuum cleaners at school (we don't have janitors, so the students do chores), something like "Little Roaring Monster". It is a terrible vacuum, and tries to very noisily eat the carpet while collecting almost no dirt whenever you don't get the settings exactly right.

I have a wooden drawing figurine that I don't really use but have named Victor for its/his resemblance to a weedy young man. That's really about it--I don't name a lot of things, and if I do, I often forget them. I guess I could. Maybe I'll start.

*When I was little, I had a small painting easle, and a wooden red screw fell out of it. I named the screw 'Annie', and adopted her as a pet, even though I had a cat and a dog at the time.

*My mom has a red Kia soul, which my family calls Red Box, and my dad has a black Ford escape which we named Toothless.

*My phone is named Paris Hilton due to an inside joke with my friends and I.

That's all I can think of for now, if anything else comes to mind I'll post again!

~Our last three cars were named Gimli, Strider, and Eowyn. If the next car we get is white or grey, it's going to be Gandalf.

~Have a lot of custom Lego Minifigures (about thirty to fourty,) and I've named them all.

~My friends have agreed that whenever you hear a voice on a speaker in a store, that person is called Jimmy and he's stuck in a pipe.

Our neighbor that my brother and I visit frequently has a TV that was recently named Dolores, and she has a silver lamp on a side table named Kristen, and then she has a little red-orange duster that I named Fred, or as the neighbor suggested, Fred the Red.

I'd never thought of naming the family computer before, but I'm deciding it's going to be Rook, after the character in the Winterling trilogy. (Read it; it's amazing!!!)

-So this is really strange, but my brother and I named a bunch of bouncy balls based on their colors. I see some days and months as having colors, so the pink ball is named May and the yellow one is named Thursday. We named one Earth because it was either green, blue, or both. (We lost it so i don't remember)

-My family names all of our dog's toys. I named her frog Jean Jacque Froggo because I was learning about Jean Jacque Rousseau in social studies, and I named her turtle Myrtle the Turle Bob McFluffinStuffins

I know that there are more but I can't think of them right now.

I just remembered some more that I couldn't think of before.

-At our ski house, the room I share with my brother and sometimes our friends is pretty small and has a low slanted ceiling, so the closet is small and the door is slanted on top. We named it The Harry Potter Closet after his cupboard under the stairs.

-One time when we were skiing with our friends, one of them brought a baby watermelon (meaning a very small one) and we named it Herbert

-My brother and I were playin Super Mario Bros. on the Wii and we named the Koopa Troopas "spaghetties" and the Goombas (mushrooms) "meatballs."

When I was about six or seven I had two scooters. One of them was an old three-wheeler I called Old Rickety, and the second one, which I got when I grew out of Old Rickety, I named Streamlined Butterfly. A year or so later, when I got my first bike, I named it Spirit, because it said Spirit on it. My second bike was named Ranger, and my current one is named Olivia, Liv for short. Also I have a plush pink cat I've slept with every night since I was six, and I named it Daisy. Later on she had a "sister" named Shelba. Smile
