NON-Christmas Holidays

NON-Christmas Holidays

NON-Christmas Holidays

Anyone else here not celebrate Christmas? I, myself, often feel left out, like when there's a Christmas party, or a Christmas SI, and I can't really participate.

So, yeah.

Go Hannukah! Slash Hanukkah slash Chanukah slash Hanuka slash Hannukkah shash WHATEVER IT DOESN'T MATTER.

Hey, I didn't know you were Jewish, Kitten! Epic, more Jews here! :) I'm Jewish, too, though you may have already known that. I get what you mean about being left out of stuff, though in the offline world I am very loud about being Jewish, so most of my non-Jewish friends know to call it a holiday party instead of a christmas party. Even though the party still has copious Santa Clauses and christmas trees all over the place. I generally just joke about it ("Oh, look! It's Santa Claus! Hide me, I'm Jewish!") And I get to tell people about Channakah and being Jewish and things like that, which is fun.

Who else here is Jewish? I'm pretty sure coyotedomino, Abigail, and Over the Rainbow are.

Last week I went to a Christmas party at my dance studio, and I was very careful not to participate in anything Christmas-y.

Also, I'm really happy this year because there are ACTUALLY JEWISH PEOPLE AT SCHOOL! At my elementary school there were, let's see, 4 Jewish kids out of 600-something at the whole school. At my middle school, there are like 10 Jewish kids just in my grade.

I’m Hindu, so I celebrate Divali (or Diwali). But it’s pretty far away from Christmas, in late November, so I still can and do celebrate Christmas. As well as Easter, New Year’s, Holi... yeah I’m really busy in the holidays department.

Yah DIVALI PARTY WITH FIREWORKS AND RICE STUFF AND JALABEIS! Jalabies... *stares dreamily into distance

BTW Jalebies are pure honey warmed and shaped into spirally pretzels and deep-fried. Ah, Indian food.

My friend celebrates Diwali. I haven’t seen her in a while because she moved to India but I know she celebrates it. Sometimes I wish that I celebrated something other than Christmas. I would still want to celebrate Christmas, but I want to learn more about the other holidays and it seems like it would be fun to celebrate them. They all have traditions and foods that Christmas doesn’t have. Then again I guess Christmas has traditions too...  Sorry, I’m just rambling now.
