Evolve by Imagine Dragons
So, Imagine Dragons' new albm came out yesterday, and I must say I'm pretty disappointed. I haven't listened to all of it yet but from what I've heard it seems that it's pretty pop-y sounding. Now I am not a fan of pop music (at all) so I feel pretty let down that this is considered alternative music. To me it just isn't.
I was talking to my friend about this, and she agrees, that what she and I would consider 'real music' (y'know, music that's not computer-generated, with actual instruments and whatnot), is kind of dying out. I said that it's likely because so many are into pop music now and if artists don't make pop-sounding music, then no one will buy their music and they won't make enough money, and so on. But it just disappoints the ones who don't like pop. To quote my friend: "artists have to make music to please the masses rather than the few that still like their old sound."
Now, back to Evolve. Most of the songs I listened to weren't great, but maybe I just need to give them another listen. I've learned to like songs that I didn't like on the first listen. (*cough* Death of a Bachelor *cough*). There are a few that I do like though, I've liked all the singles they've released before the album came out.
Anyway, what does everyone else think of this new album?

I HAVE NOT HEARD THIS ALBUM
But I agree with what you said about what I call "The Black Hole of Pop" and I listen to what you would call fake music. A ton of electronica is now pop. I have been making a large playlist, and I have to dig through years, literaly years of music before it starts sounding like the type of elctronica I can listen to.
I would reccomend you do not try to make yourself like this. If the band thinks you will go with it, prove them wrong. Write a reveiw or something to let people know.
Also, I love the term real music.

I listened through the album on or two times yesterday, and honestly, I really liked it.
It definitely is different then their earlier music, (probably hence the title "Evolve") but I think it's a mix bag. Some of the songs, like Rise Up, I Don't Know Why, and Thunder had some more synths, filters, and pop-like influences, but you could still hear their original sound underneath. Others, like Walking the Wire and Believer, resembled their earlier style, and others were kind of hybrids.
All that to say, it was different, but I liked it.
Oh, also, one more thing. As to computer generated music, my dad and I were talking about that the other day. He works with that stuff a lot, and he told that a whole lot of the loops they use are created using real instruments, not just computers. It's just a way of taking said real instruments and layering them on top of each other to create interesting sounds. Besides, Twenty One Pilots has only two band members; how else would they create all their awesome music? XD

I agree with you on that one. The synthetics isn't always computer generated.
But I didn't really like Dancing in the Dark because there was synthetics on the lyrics that didn't make it understandable. How am I supposed to memorize the song if the words are all morph-y?

Yeah, I didn't really like that one either. Whatever weird metallic filter they ran on his voice kind of ruined it for me...... and besides, there were barely any words. I feel like he was just repeating the same line over and over XD
Oh my goodness, I LOVED I Don't Know Why, Whatever It Takes, and Thunder. I've listened through the album about two or three times and I'm liking it more each time I listen.
Luna says "uocz". I'm crazy? I have to agree with that.
