Audition for Orchestra!
Alright, so I live in beautiful, extremely warm Florida, and in a week and some days, I'm going to FSU (Florida State University, I don't know if you like or hate or even know where that is) for an orchestra camp. Now, in Florida, FSU is a huge school, and it has an amazing music program, so it's kind of a big deal. I'm auditioning and after the audition they place you in an orchestra, depending on your level of playing. I want to shoot for the top group, and I hope I get in, but I have to have all the audition material down. (Two scales, I'm doing two octave G major and possibly D or C of F or I don't know, and a piece that shows off your skills. Oh, and they may have us sight read.)
So yeah. We get to dorm with two other people for two weeks, and I'm going to hopefully be with my friend...um... K, and another random person. (I play the double bass, K plays the cello.)
Any tips for auditioning? I still have time. I'm playing Bourrée by Handel.
Thank you so much! ^^

Cool! I can also play Handel Bouree! Except I play violin. As for tips, just practice your posture or bowhold or whatever you feel you need to work on, and act confident. Confidence is extremely important.

That sounds awesome! A sleepaway camp where you get to play music for two weeks?! Too bad I don't live in Florida! I hope you do great and have lots of fun!!! Unfortunately I've never auditioned for anything so I don't have any tips.
Turquoise says cggc. A palindrome!

Good luck, good luck, good luck! I know nothing about auditioning, but I'm sure you'll be amazing, Killim! Just focus on the music and the instrument, not the competition/audition itself. You rock!

Aw, thanks so much, everyone! You all are really sweet and motivational. Thanks so much! ^^

One tip for auditioning is to simply be yourslef. I mean, don't act crazy of course, but you can be cheerful and completely confident (confidence is very important in auditions!) so you don't appear stiff and unprepared. It is also possible to be serious (so they see you can take this orchestra seriously) without appearing uptight or scared. Good luck; I know you'll do great!!!!!

Thank you so much!! And congrats on your chorus placing. ^^

Good luck Killim! I find it amusing that you unintentionally put my CB name in your post. I wish I lived in Florida. Sadly, I'm somwhere far, far away.

YAS BASES ARE AMAZING! I play the cello, so...fellow base-clef person!
TIPS FOR AUDITIONING:
* If you can, talk to the judge! Especially if they ask questions, you can say more than "My name is _____ and I am going to play ________." This makes it a lot more comfortable.
* Practice all you want in the days before the audition, but DON'T excessively practice the night before. Maybe play your piece once or twice as you are warming up the morning of, but don't play it over and over again right before performing.
* Keep your eyes on the music as you play, so that if you lose track, you don't have to spend several embarrasing seconds searching for the right spot.
That's all I have! Good luck!!!

@RP, haha, I did! And thanks! ^^
@Jarvis, cool! I remember you told me from Camp Nano. I'm playing out of Suzuki Base Book 3. And thank you for the advice.

I play the viola, aka the instrument with all the jokes.

You play the double bass?!? That's awesome!!! I play the cello, and I just finished suzuki book 3. Book 4 is really hard, the first song is four pages and its full of weird slur-trills on basicaly every line. My friend's dad plays the bass, and once when I was at her house he let me try it out. It was so huge!!! Anyways, I wish you good luck with your audition, and I really hope you get it in. It sounds just like the audition I had to do for the regional orchestra. I did the two octave g major scale as well! Agh, that was really stressful. The best advice would be just to practice and practice as much as you can, but take a night off the day before. Then, when you get there, just relax and play like you would in practice.
